Description Its about looking at things you have been very close to from a distance.
Lyrics The Freeway of Light

Your horse is weary and the suns going down
Tie him up n burn the bible
Theres no way forward and theres no way down
It all comes back to survival

So if you are killing yourself to really live
But you know theres so much more that you can give
If you turn around then maybe you will find
Theres nothing in between you and the freeway of light

The sky is spinning and your heads on fire
Dont know what you been drinking
Your mind was empty when you left for the road
Didnt know what you were thinking

But if you ever make this place your home
We will make you suffer like youve never known
Your not the kind of diamond any woman can own
Cos theres nothing in between you and the freeway of light

lengold said 424 days ago
Lovely
and very catchy song. Very well played and sung and I especially like the production (the whispering voices are a really good touch). I am still listening and it grows as it goes. Downloaded. Thanks.
Fantastic.
Cheers
Len

paddler said 423 days ago
thanks
the whispering was a bit of pitch up and reverse and reverb

I don't know what I've been drinking either
I just got back from a weekend in Brighton and my head feels like a large dog has sat on it. Actually maybe that's what did happen ...

... anyway ...

I like the way the distorted sounds and bright clean sounds are superimposed. It's simple in structure but crisp and punchy and your vocals are lovely.

paddler said 423 days ago
-
Its a strange image to think of a dog sitting on your head but I must confess I usually come back from Brighton on the train just... swearing.Crisp and Punchy is good in that frame of mind the best cure for a hangover is music.

Cheers Reb

peacepiano said 424 days ago
Style
I like the style you use here. Fuzzy psychedelic guitars and echoing Rhodes piano frame your vocals well. And the synths frame the whole.

Thanks
Bill

paddler said 423 days ago
-
The fuzzy is an illusion - thats the distorted bass. The guitars are pretty clear isolated but I know wot you mean.

Cheers Bill!

kristyjo said 424 days ago
First-
I love the illustration. You have such a relaxed delivery. I like the effects on 'and the freeway of light'. The electric piano is groovy, too.

paddler said 423 days ago
-
I'd love to freak out more but I live in a weird house

Thanks KristyJo - I see you have a new tune, will listen

I don't know what is more mesmerising
....Your song or your animated graphic! Very nice electric piano solos with the interesting background sounds. The notes just seem to flow and cascade with an unhurried attitude. Lovev the vocals too - reminds me a bit of the Moody Blues. Great song!! This one will be in my head for the day.
Cheers,
Doug

paddler said 423 days ago

Thats the hippy that wont grow up.Moody blues - I only know Nights In White Satin - another band I'm ignorant of - must check em out

Cheers Doug - mesmerised is good!

this artfull folky song my friend ..
the guitar rethym with the beats just
cool .nice singing as well ...Kudos !

Moviz said 423 days ago
Yes...
As Doug said... mesmerising. This is so 'different' and as they say these days "You made it all your own" with the originality. Love your voice always and you play a mean piano too, great stuff all round, regards M

paddler said 423 days ago
-
Thanks - I've wondered if my stuff is original or whether I'm just the biggest rip off artists ever.If I had to pitch an influence in this song it would be Nick Drake,Blodwyn Pig,Tom Waits and possibly Beck (not Jeff Beck) dunno if that makes any sense to anyone.

Cheers M

I can definitely
hear the Beck vibe. But my first thought, I must admit, was Super Furry Animals. This could easily be a track by them. But either way, I definitely loved it. I loved the musical juxtaposition throughout. Can I play this on my podcast show at some point?

Ejh said 423 days ago
I think I'm gonna hafta listen again...
I have that sense that I'm not sure I caught it all, but some bits are calling me back...

I really like the electric piano parts, vocals, lyrics and melody... Can't tell if I'm going to love or eventually lose the taste for the combined distorted parts... It catches the ear, and doesn't sound like everything else in the world...

I suppose I can hear that nod to the Moody Blues. I was thinking Jethro Tull at one point, and later Traffic at another.

I think next listen will be with headphones...

paddler said 423 days ago
well..
I'd be interested to find out - the only time I enjoy listening to my own music is when I haven't heard it for about 10 years - unless I'm on stimulants and then I mostly enjoy anything.

Cheers Ed

Very nice
I like it very much, its a very pleasant track to listen to. The lyrics are meaningful and well sung with lovely harmonies and the music is fantastic. You are a great musician. Well done, nice work.
P.s. Love the picture animation as well.

burning at...
both ends of the candle.

Seems you have melded two style of music into one. And it comes out unique. superb.

I also like the short Doors piece at the end. It just makes you smile when those little tributes are thrown in.

paddler said 415 days ago
Thanks
Diviner - good of you to say so

Vic - good of you to smile! LONG LIVE THE DOORS

(no-one gets out alive!)

Wish I could have voted
Hey, I just don't understand why the paddler isn't a world famous artist (yet). You are making some of the most interesting music on the planet.

Wish I could have voted here because this is a songs that would be really easy to give 10-10-10-10 without hesitation.

Nifty artwork by the way, even though the musical and lyrical content really is what makes this creation shine.

You continue to give me great moments with your music.
Thank you for that!

aah cori, cori, cori - you always remind me of my old friend Slim Verhoef. We'll have to have a logjam someday!

funky
RG,
I love the distorted bass! Sets a great stage. Very different for you, your stuff is always so crisp and clean, I like the variation and the juxtaposition of the clean rhodes, vocals and the nastier bits. The open jam at the end is great. I can't say I have ever made it through one of your songs all the way before hitting the DL button...very groovy.

This is a
wonderful song. The piano sounds really cool, vocals are great.I can't think of anything I would change.

Splendid.
I loved the "confusion" you create with distorted bass and clean guitars.

Excellent graphic as well.

Cheers

Very cool
Hints of Werewolves of London and Traffic. Some lovely sounds and excellent production.
Highpoint for me was the graphic - a little extraterrestrial, like the voices under the Rhodes solo.
Lovely stuff.

This about the coolest thing
I've heard here in some time. Excellent soundscape and great lyrics. Add some sweet e piano and super chill vocals and you have a hit here Paddler. There's a little nick Lowe vibe I'm feeling here. Quite excellent. Remember Jonah Lewie? - another cool cat like yourself.

davisamerica said 417 days ago
hey paddler!
just got it i think...is permission for a vacation? thanks!...lol...still playing this one

Karmatoburn said 417 days ago
great
songcraft. fab feel, cool sounds, and everything works to create something greater than its parts.

ledebutant said 417 days ago
Thanks
Thanks for this. I'm a big fan of older Beck stuff, have been to see him live several times (what a showman!) but something happened to him and he stopped having fun, but you're having so much FUN here and still making really good music and I so wish he'd gone in the direction you're demonstrating here. This is a terrific song, really well-sung, very nicely arranged and catchy as all get out. An instant macjams favorite. Downloaded and going to be listened to about a million times.
