Description My first take on drakonis' "Ember". To my knowledge, a hip-hop version hasn't been tried ... and certainly
not one feat. the rapping talents of Eduard's own chicken "custard".

I started going from 69 BPM to 205, added the drums (2 tracks: one effected), re-voiced the instruments, re-mixed, re-effected, adjusted some panning, added that extra synth bit, and some reversed parts for extra FX, removed previous GB mastering and used Ozone 3 for that instead... the midi really has some fantastic
detail (of course) which I did try to exploit in my instrument choices .. the bed has a blend of old and new .. then on Eduard's request it got (even) sillier... and custard was plucked out of retirement.

Original Custard recording used.
.. had a job filtering out the very large
embers of the recent fires in the background, so Custard might not be totally happy with the BBQing .. er .. I mean EQing of her contribution... but what the heck- a' sa', a' said, it's a chicken folks!!! lol.

Thanks Eduard for letting me play around with this.. it was lots of fun :o)

OH MY!!!
Who woulda thunk it? talk about your Chicken dance deluxe! This is just too funny. Great job guys and chicks. Chickens on Crack. What a concept.

said 424 days ago
LOL!
This chicken needs his own profile. I want to collab with him.

Too funny Alan. You just made my day.

Thanks bro.

Diviner said 424 days ago

Well mixed and sounded sooo good. Its such a funny track and a very witty title. Nice one apb, I love tracks that put a smile on my face, and this certainly did. Cheers for sharing. :-)

Glad I came back for the chicken LOL

Very different and imaginative approach.

Thanks

Ember-assed
this is fun ....so you sampled the chick sound ?

apb said 424 days ago
Thanks Feter
.. I cut it from a cleaned up version of the source file
(linked in the lid description for reference). Then made
my own loops/samples from that.

Custard was 'singing' some pretty groovy patterns to start
with - so all credit where it is due. :o)

Roxylee said 424 days ago
Hey, great singing chicken!
At first, i thought this was funny, but then i started groovin' right along. Way cool, Alan! :-)

apb said 424 days ago
Thanks Roxanne ..
I'm glad you picked up on that borderline quality ..the edge of insanity ...and sheer stupidity .. funny, silly: sure - but not that bad really... considering it's Custard's first collab..go easy on her..lol.

The question is perhaps:
Is it possible to make it sound like a chicken is rapping?

davisamerica said 424 days ago
lol
alan...lol.....

apb said 423 days ago
:o)
.. what? lol...

drakonis said 424 days ago
We be Bagawkin'!
Who says Chickens don't got rhythm?

Alan, you really outdid yourself here... absolutely impeckable sense of comedic timing, this wings you a feather in your cap, you were able to pullet off brilliantly. My wife (owner of the now-rock-star chicken "Custard") thinks it is exquisitely funny, and now has it on her iPod and has played it from time to time all weekend while we were on vacation.

I think you did a super job of choosing a humorously fast tempo, hip-hoppish instrumentation, I love the loud musical interjection in the middle with the chicken-disturbance, and your choice of "chicken nuggets", looped and inserted here and there makes this a giggly joy to listen to... puts a smirk on my face EVERY time I listen to it (now coming up on about 50 listens over 2 days now :-) Thank you for such a funny treat, you've made a whole house-full of chicks (and a rooster/dragon) really happy!

And although the animated chicken artwork is silly, I actually liked your own artwork creation better.

ttfn,
Drakonis

Thanks all for the comments!
rschletty & Dick - thanks, glad you savoured it.
Skean - full of surprises, download enabled, sorry, mistake.
Caroline - xoxoxoxxo
mikey d - but what came first? The egg or the chicken??
steck - lol, it's gallus gallus ;o)
gail60 - .. I knew I had forgotten something ..lol.
Pickquick - need to speak to the hen honcho 'bout that ..
Diviner - it's good to spread some humour from time 2 time.. without making an omelette.
falo - thanks for stopping in and letting me mess with your head.
peacepiano - glad you did too.
drakonis - thanks to you all! It was eggcellent you gave me free range with this one .. and I didn't cockerel it up. Artwork back to the original on
your request, less scary for the alektorphobics...

bud said 423 days ago
Just when you think you've heard it all
along comes APB and a rapping chicken - care of Dakonis's ubiquitous Ember Rekindled. Well I'll be skewered and 'cued - this is a tasty little treat.

SecaMode said 422 days ago
awesome
hey alan, this is so cool! i love the drums and that squawking is hilarious but it really works. this is a really fun way to be experimental. hats off to you, you've done something really serious without taking it too seriously. loved it!!!

michael2 said 422 days ago
i never
would have seen this direction. makes my version feel so traditional. love this.

musichead said 422 days ago
filthy
Alan,
If you knew what filthy meant in American terms, you would be happy.
Its what the kids say when they really like something. I didnt know if I should laugh or listen and laugh or just listen and then laugh.
But still it had a touch of class??

guitapick said 422 days ago
Lots of depth, here...
...love the way you weave the music around the rhythm of the clucks...or is that vice versa?

;)

...great interpretation, apb...I'm hungry, now...

Hahaha
The world can't have too many rapping chickens. Very nice!

apb said 419 days ago
Thanks ever so much ..

Bud - thanks, with so many excellent versions .. it was about time for a bad one ... no wait ... summat wrong *doh*
Secamode - cheers, glad you picked up that quality in the mix.
Michael2 - oo almost got me .. I'm trying now not to listen to too many other versions before I do another (just in case). Will listen after though, nothing wrong with traditional- I didn't have this version really in
mind when I started .. it just happened.
musichead - :o) neither is never unacceptable. Class??
guitapick - ty- what came first the bed or the chicken? Well, the bed in this case: custard was steered a little around the bed.
benchod abu - thanks! welcome to MJs!!
Lizard*Whistle - :o) thanks for stopping in
Scott Carmichael - lol darn you! Wish I'd remembered that one ;o) "Chicken Tikka you and I know.."
egobandit - :o) no chickens were choked during the production of this song.
damiengh - thanks, I'm off to cry in me guinness now ..
thoddi - I agree, custard was a pleasure to work with and works for chicken feed too.
Alannah - isn't that snakes?
perceptualvortex - :o) it may be a world first! .. and quite probably last!! lol. I may just have ensured Custard's life.. 'Quiche' better shape up on the talent front ..I'm just sayin' ..

your music cannot be placed onto a shelf of this genre or that. you are always bending the boundaries, and rubbing out the hard edges, to go your own way. brilliant.

Every time that chicken starts rapping, ooh.

I have no idea where "Ember" or "Custard" came from, but oh I'm so glad, so glad. I will have to look this stuff up.

The title is brilliant. You are so good at that.

hahaha drak sent this to me. this is the best rap i've heard and it's worth listening to! you guys need to take this chicken and head out onto the road! seriously though this is cool. perhaps experiment with different animals or sounds and make them rap and prove that not all rap is crap.
