Description Here's my take on Drakonis's tune Ember-Rekindled as re-imagined by Brian Eno. If only - but I tried. Be sure to check out the original and the many reinterpretations that followed.

Many thanks to Eduard for the opportunity to work with such a great track - I could have tweaked this forever. If anyone wants to run with this - feel free - but I really recommend getting the original file from Eduard.

I'm firsts
Nice take on "Drak's" Ember.... Flows right down to my adder Ember songs. Nice pic too fits well to the song... Cheers

Kenta

bud said 436 days ago
Thanks Kenta
I'm sure I'll be in good company.

davisamerica said 436 days ago
absolutely
too cool! this one rocks bud! well done indeed. fav'd and d/l'd!!!

bud said 436 days ago
Much appreciated
glad you stopped by. Drak made a great point of departure. You recently "Emberred" too right? I remember laid back guitars and cool vocals.

drakonis said 436 days ago
Each spark is unique...
This is a beautifully unique re-interpretation... I really like what you did here! Wholly different from any previous versions. There are a LOT of detailed changes I hear in this, you did a lot to this! I loved the synth voicings and variations of synths throughout, the bendy bits, the percussive rhythms added a lot. Of course, I have a couple of critiques too... at the beginning after the piano & bass play a bar, SUDDENLY everything else starts on the first beat of the next bar, and it is quite jarring... I'd have preferred stuff staged a little more. And the mix felt very dry... maybe a teeny bit more reverb would give more ambience. But other than that, this is a delicious remix! Thanks for playing!
ttfn,
Drakonis

bud said 436 days ago
Thanks for the fun Eduard
and for the comments. I agree about maybe adding some more space/room to this. The "all fall in" start after the intro was quite intentional - though it is indeed a bit jarring. I just liked the way the 808 drums kicked in with the rest - like a lounge act turning on the backing track. I could do a few more of these.

drakonis said 435 days ago
a very large "Ohhh!"
I get it... I finally went off to find Eno's "Another Green World", and now I hear the masterful similarity, and understand/appreciate even better what you were doing... and of course I know why you were then suggesting the New Challenge in the forums, though you have a head start :-) Very nicely done, on a new level!
ttfn,
Drakonis

bud said 435 days ago
Everything's a circle
right? I don't really have any original ideas - just attempts at living up to those I admire.

Einarus said 436 days ago
Nice one!
There is something about this that sounds so exotic and exciting. I can't quite put my finger on what it is, but it's there.
A very cool vibe you've created here.

Very nicely done!

-Einar S.

bud said 436 days ago
I think it's Drak's
bass and sub tone writing. That and the cheesy 808 drums.

DWL said 436 days ago
Always amazed
at the talent here.

Ambient with an edge.

Cheers

well done !!

bud said 436 days ago
Thnaks Feter
nice of you to drop by.

lengold said 436 days ago
This is
very listenable Bud - lovely sounds and great production. A very pleasant earful.
Cheers
Len

bud said 436 days ago
Pleasant is good sometimes
be sure to check out Eduard's original - and some of the many other versions out there. SmokeyVW recently did an orchestral one.

michael2 said 436 days ago
love
the drums that sound as if they came from an old ladies organ. what are those? almost like Eno jamming with Martin Denny and the Art of Noise. you did a great job re-mixing this one.

bud said 436 days ago
Thanks Mike
the drums are "analog electronic" apple loops. Sounds exactly like my old TR808 drum machine. I love Martin Denny - "Quiet Village" - good call. How about Esquivel - and Yma Sumac? There's a book in the 33 1/3 series about to come out on the making of Another Green World. I'm interested to hear what drum machines they were using at the time.

no pussyfottin
I like the take on draks song.. more towards the end were you lay in the synth is my favorite. Cool flow on this!!!

bud said 436 days ago
No Pussyfooting
great album there. Might be fun to have a little Fripp/Eno fest. I could get into some style copping adventures.
Hmm - maybe it's a new challenge. Write the song that was left off...Here Come the Warm Jets - Dark Side of the Moon - Rocket to Russia. You get the idea.

I like that
thanks

Dj French Toast said 436 days ago
Lets see
I really like the drunk feel it has ......the guitar is awesome .....nice n noisy just like I like it .....kool trip and nice remake Dude !

bud said 436 days ago
Thanks Benny
no instruments were handled in this remix. I thought it would be cool to overdub all the parts with instruments - instead of going midi - but I didn't have the opportunity - and besides, the guitar does sound cool.

Dj French Toast said 436 days ago
you
have some serious skills bro if thats all midi ......your the man !

apexcp said 424 days ago
definitely
drunk is definitely a good adjective to describe this song. really great stuff, but definitely (and yet, vaguely) disoriented

but thats definitely a good characteristic for this.

Vic Holman said 436 days ago
krafty-werk
sure brings back to mind some of the german electrosyth bands of the 70's that I use to listen to.

the type of thing where I should have the lights off and kicking back. Very well done and laid back. Bud. Nice take on the original.

bud said 436 days ago
Crank up the large Advents
and float down stream. Thanks for stopping by Vic.

Ejh said 436 days ago
Well, a dragon....
...might, under certain circumstances, be considered a sombre reptile...

I really like the incorporation of the cheesy organ rhythm box a la Eno, and the Frippertronic guitar lines, underpinned with those dark synth notes...

Being as how Another Green World is one of my favorite, life-and-mind-altering albums, I'm just enjoying the heck out of this...

Another one tonight where I'm disappointed that I can't vote on it...

Ed

bud said 436 days ago
Excellent pun Ed
Sombre Reptiles indeed. No votes necessary - love is all there is. Thanks for sharing the Eno thing - AGW was extremely influential to me as well.

guitapick said 436 days ago
An urban jungle...
...how cool is that?

Such a fine interpretation, Kevin...I love it.

Really great work...and, of course: drak's original is fantastic...

Congrats...

bud said 435 days ago
Thanks Bob
I loved your new tune for the baby bandit.

Another
Excellent version of Ember! This is a smooth track, although that beginning did make me jump a bit. Maybe it's just the level of the guitar/synth as it jumps in- ah, what do I know :P

I enjoyed listening to this one, Bud. Again, nice job!

bud said 434 days ago
Thanks Mikey -
appreciate the note. It does pop a little sudden if your volumes up. Should come with a warning label.

JOAN said 434 days ago
(:-)
you've nicely captured the spirit of eno.... love it!!

You have gotta love those CR78 drums
This is great. Not quite Sombre Reptiles (but almost)

I love it

biba_nova said 433 days ago
PS
Take a listen to Your Brain's Ears on Music

Another lost Eno track :-)

But I don't know from which album - maybe Music for Airports?

bud said 431 days ago
Loved your lost Eno track
thanks for the tip. I hear there's a new game in town you might want to check out.

I wasn't going for Sombre Reptiles or any particular Eno song - just the vibe of AGW.

Thanks for listening and commenting.

Macaudion said 432 days ago
Yeah!
WoW! Niiiiiiiice one Bud! And Drak, too! Now this has to be my favorite version of this little ditty! Instant connection to it. The others left me trying too hard. Like it! A lot!

Thanks! Macca

bud said 431 days ago
Thanks Macca
All of Drak's Embers are special.

Alannah said 432 days ago
This ember ..
.. is turning into a blaze ... very original take on a tried and true Ember!

bud said 431 days ago
Thanks Alanah
I've got to get around to hearing all the different versions. Drak's original is great to work with.

peacepiano said 432 days ago
Read
Oh! I just read your description. You are almost right on with what Brian Eno might have done with this in the late '70s. (I have the LPs) Eno might have slowed it down a bit, but the choices and types of musical accents and effects are good.

Thanks
Bill

bud said 431 days ago
Thanks for your comments
you're right about the tempo - but the midi slide guitar sounded awful when I slowed it down too much - so I hit this stride. Good ears.

said 431 days ago
Well
this is pretty much the whole album (minus the laconic vocals) in a nutshell! My favorite by far of the Ember remixes, and with plenty of humor to boot. Well done.

bud said 431 days ago
Thanks Sonny
Feel free to boot some humor.

spitlogic said 431 days ago

The synths used here are nice and what you've done with the jam is complimentary. I like the few changes in the song; they keep things interesting.

Nice all around.

bud said 431 days ago
Thanks for dropping by
The music is pretty much all Drak's - I just changed voices, did some editing and mixing. Glad you like it.

The Orbiting said 431 days ago
Emberiffic
I noticed the other day that you'd gone and gotten Emberized and kept meaning to get over to listen to what you'd done and, I have to admit, I wasn't expecting this and I don't really know why, because "this" is obviously something that you're really very good at and have a very organic, natural understanding of that's translating into the music really well.

The drums are really hypnotic and, after a while, start to sound organic, almost like some sort of instrument played by waterdrops. I really love the contrast of the shimmery synths with the percussion. Overall a big wow from me!

--Lisa

bud said 431 days ago
Thanks Lisa
you're making me blush. I had a lot of fun with this - and when I caught the Eno bug - it just happened. Also - I spent a good 6 years working with TR808 drum machine - so it's in my comfort zone.

Ibstrat said 430 days ago
Organic
I was listening to this thinking it sounded really organic...well someone beat me to it.Well, anyway for a song done mostly with computers it sounds very un-computer-like.Excellent work-I really like it.

bud said 429 days ago
Thnaks so much for stopping by
there's warmth in these machines - it just takes some coaxing to get it out. That and a good dose of reverb and distortion.

lostsongs said 430 days ago
Yo Bud
Cool take on Eno - maybe you should try the LSP challenge.

Latecomer here ... I'm a member of the Ember club but haven't logged in for a while. :-)

Edgy and creative with compulsive percussion. A groovy and dynamic remix.

Why, thanks LW -
I'll have to check out your version.
