Keywords ominous (3)alien (8)bud (7)drums (214)synth (290)
Description I used Bud's "Tracker Drumz" < http://www.macjams.com/song/35822 > as the inspiration for this. I added some synth clav and bells, the rest is Bud's original track.

** Thinking about lowering the moog volume in the first half of the song and fading the bells as they climb just before the end.

Also, would mixing this with Bud's original gb file make a big difference? I used the mp3 he posted, and have not plans to tweak his work.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks for giving this a listen. Bud provided a cool sound bed.

Glad you like the sounds. The ending is all fun, trying to get some interesting sounds in.

Yeah, I turned up the Portamento on this, it was a lot of fun playing the sounds.

Good to hear from you.

alien time
I was wondering how someone would approach Bud's drum track.

You came up with a cool approach. cool melody and synths. really like the classic Kieth Emerson synth lead

peacepiano said 451 days ago
Vic
Keith Emerson is my favorite keyboardist, I guess it shows. Buds drum track is real spacey with a lot of its own bass and synth parts, great stuff to work with.

bud said 452 days ago
Bill - this is great
so glad you took an interest in this track and gave it such a cool treatment. Love the lead synth and the open feel to your arrangement. Well done.

Bud
Thanks for letting me take off with this. The original track is almost a complete song, so I was careful not to drown it out with my extra parts. Hope I succeeded.

great jams
nice work guys, i might have to check out those tracker drums. i'm already getting burned out a little with the loop thing. love the key's peace ! do you know if you can get some of those sounds with reason !! once again, great work as usual .

The drum track is real cool. I'm not real sure how Bud put it together, you should check out his original posting. As for the sounds I added, I would be shocked if they were not part of the Reason arsenal.

Thanks for listening.

I think...
...that it's about time somebody took this "alien thing" seriously. All these movies about their "good intentions" when you and I know what's REALLY happening here...

Synth rules, here...very cool...need to get something to "take it down with", my next listen.

peacepiano said 450 days ago

The alien wins in this one ;)

Synths rule this tune, but guitars are still dominant in live performance.

Thanks for stopping by :)

Just great!
I love all those little extra bits and pieces you drop in throughout the number. There seems to be some throughful strategy going on here. A nice track for some bizarre film clip. ... As you know, I don't usually "think" in these terms, but I sure can appreciate what you guys have done here... The ending: AWESOME. Just love it.
Peace.

Paul-
This kind of piece is more layers and parts slipped in than melodies and harmonies, so I am glad you were able to appreciate it. I had a lot of fun with that ending, thanks for the kudos!!!

Thanks for your support!! The synth is GB's Ominous Dancefloor with the the glide (portamento) turned up some. Its a monophonic synth so you can get some interesting effects when more than one key is played at a time. Also, I use maximum keyboard sensitivity on piano like keys.

Neat
PeacePiano, this is an excellent track. I love the Clavinet sounds. One of my favorite records is Bill Withers' "Use Me" which used Clavinet (the real thing) to great effect.

I also love the panning of the various sounds on either side of my headphones.

Reminds me a lot of early Billy Preston instrumentals from the late 60s and early 70s, like "Outa-Space" and "Space Race."

Your pitch-bend wheel is getting a real workout. You really know your way around a keyboard!

That ending is just terrific. I have always loved 'true' synth sounds, sounds which do not attempt to reproduce any traditional instrument, but revel in their own glorious electronic uniqueness. And that last lick really exemplified that. Weird pitch bends, scratch-type sounds -- great stuff!

peacepiano said 446 days ago
John-
I don't know how to respond. Billy Preston could really cut loose on the electric keyboards of his day, very high praise. This was a very fun track to do because Bud's rhythm track freed me from trying to be my own beat keeper. Thanks again for the comments, I always appreciate what you have to say.

Very cool
The synths and rhythms, here and there, remind me of so many other artist back through the decades all fused together in such a fresh and an interesting way. Great results guys! And thanks for bringing this forth!
Keep well,
Doug

Something old, something new, something borrowed....oops wrong context ;)

This was a fun song to record, I am glad you enjoyed it.

Great stuff
The moog sound is great. Also the tubular bells. It has a retro feel - like from the early 1970s when those instruments were being used in a lot of the pop music I wasn't supposed to be listening to.
I love the way you take that ascending pattern, and then instead of stopping and moving on to something else, you keep going and going. You do end up with some cool effects at the end.
I don't think you ought to fade the bells - they're great as they are.

I had an older brother and sister, so my parents had pretty much abandoned the effort of sheltering me from music like this. I'm glad you like the bells. I was actually thinking Mike Oldfield when I did this but I think I kind of got carried away at the end :)

Always more than happy to get comments on songs that have been up for awhile!! And there are thousands of other great songs on the site! I have only listened to a few, but many are really worth digging up, especially old stuff by Tobin, Paddler and Peter Greenstone.

Thanks.
