Description er .. I came up with this idea ..
and .. er .. it went from there ..
I've since noticed "Carnival knowledge" was suggested as a title by daddyg for a cjhoose song a while
back...

short unfinished work in progress, volunteers and suggestions welcome ..

The very beginning is a sample from Freesound (Creative Commons licensed: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/sampling+/1.0/):
By NoiseCollector (http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/usersViewSingle.php?id=4948)
spacecircus.WAV (http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/samplesViewSingle.php?id=41896)
Hardware Intel Mac Mini 1.66GHz, 2GB RAM
Software: GB v3,
Linplug Alpha 3, (free AU plug-in)
Boldt Oboe, (free soft instrument)
Boldt Alto Sax, (free soft instrument)
Ozone 3. (not so free AU plug-in)

Carnival knowledge
nice tune !!

apb said 453 days ago
Thanks Feter
. if anything I wanted to focus on the sounds and nothing else really and just capture the idea for later.. hence alot of time resulted in just 1min 22s.

You can get quite a bit of mileage out of the free plug-ins
and still sound different IMO, if some time and care
is taken.

Further arrangement and a more complete 'direction' is for
sure something I need to work on.

more..
...the masses want more!
i liked it, just too short. certainly due for more workings!
very cool track, alan!

apb said 450 days ago
Thanks Jason ..
I'll do me best :o)

Carnival Knowledge - very funny title!

catchy. I know it needs more, but I don't know what. It seems to want to be a dance tune - bass? Singing?

apb said 455 days ago
:o)
.. it's a bit electronicy for your tastes .. but if it
ever needs to be played live .. you know who is doing the
percussion at least ;o) .. glad you got a kick out of the
title .. makes me giggle anyway ..and that's what counts..lol.

Singing: I was thinking either going very Teddybears Stockholm
"hey ho huh hu hup hup hup hej" .. OR ..lol .. looking for
someone to play ringmaster .. anyone sound like the guy
from the "Old grey whistle test"? .. "roll up, roll up ..
greatest show on earth" "feats and freaks" etc etc.

Bass: I have plans to try to merge in some 70s disco ..
the bass might help do this.

Drop me a note if anything springs to mind... you hum it,
I'll play it...lol ;o)

Nice
but different for you I like it. I could hear crunchy guitars on top a crazy bass line .. The way it stands is thumpin and i think people could dance all night to it, thanks for sharing!

apb said 450 days ago
Thanks Ego
.. glad you enjoyed it. Hmm .. they can dance for 1:22s so
far at least :o)

said 456 days ago
good one
nice job, alan - i hear the synth singing the melody -and see a huge crowd of people united in something wonderful, singing a simple phrase with rich harmony. and OUCH on that end, you brute, you! do ye not believe in FADE, laddie?
8)

this is full of potential. enjoyed the listen,
anne

apb said 455 days ago
Thanks Anne ..
.. I do need some 'acts' for this circus .. ah, fade out ..
yes .. or at least an ending of course ..this way it really
gives that certain unfinished touch .. lol.

I was toying with that opening high melody as a singing
melody in fact .. well spotted.

Btw - in case I forgot, loved your singing on rtcooper's
song, with Neil... brilliant, very Fleetwood Mac (with
Christine McVie).

Wow...trippy!
dance...trance...glance...chance...stance....

Nice composition and mix Alan. Already sounds nearly finished for this genre although perhaps just a tad short. I like it!

Be well!

apb said 450 days ago
Thanks Mike
... is it a little trippy .. I didn't really notice that
.. or even the kinda Indian/eastern ish flavor .. I must
stop going to that restaurant! lol .. I will certainly
be trying to make it song length ..

Great tune! Leaves me craving some off-beat snare but that's just me. Nice and crisp and exciting stuff.

apb said 455 days ago
*doh* Snares!! ..
.. (makes note) .. anything else? I actually want to try
blending it in with a bit more 70s disco sounds later ..
I could bring in a snare or two then .. thanks for the
suggestions/feedback.

haribo said 455 days ago
omg the sounds!
loved the opening sounds! the glitters soaked me right into this song

percussion layer is so subtlely situated in the mix thus jams intact with sounds.. it's so lively!

this tune is surely highly dancable!! i so wanna go into that circus tent in the picture.. is it in egypt?

apb said 455 days ago
Yup ..
.. Sahara .. turn left at the sand dune ;o) .. been the
ruin of many a large man .. hmm ..sounds familiar ..
the tent under the very hot sun. Oh what a circus ...
it's not real .. it's a mirage .. er ..well photoshop mirage,
as I think everyone can spot :o)

Enjoyed it a lot !

apb said 450 days ago
Thanks Yeman
..glad you enjoyed this little boogie...

craft said 455 days ago
beat it hard
nice one!!! Love the drums... Nice sound efxx... Eurodance tune...

apb said 455 days ago
Thanks Antonio..
.. always fun to try something out of 'my usual' .. it was 3
Beathive "Desert Dumbek 1" loop .. 1 centre, 2 L/R
wide (+/- 46) .. I think I Tremelo:Leslie rotor'd the L/R and
used Auto wah with "Filter ducks" and "Add sharpness" on
EQ on just one side .. sounds a little like there is two
different percussionists I think ..

I even got to play a few pitch bends on my keyboard on one
part .. that's a first for me. lol.

Axgrinder said 455 days ago
I'm not used to this......
coming from you dude! Not to say that it isn't a fine bed in which I'm sure you shall build into an amazing auditory extravaganza (};-P) This has mass potential my friend. now I've got to run! I have sh*t loads of comments to catch up on, and so little time! Kudos.

:o)
.. I'm full of sh .. er, shurprises! me :o).. I find it fun from time to time to not touch any of my real instruments .. and to try to put more focus on sounds/FX, layering, arranging and production... I do like that Linplug Alpha 3 free AU plug-in... packs a fair punch... so I created the sounds and I did play/pencil the majority of this as midi,.. with my very limited one-hand keyboard skills... then made some loops of them.

The percussion is a Beathive loop, some other 'whoosh' at the snare fills and of course the start.. is that Freesound sample I mentioned in the lid.

said 455 days ago
Gonna DL this one!
...and see how well I can destroy it on my own :P

Lots of room to play with this one:)

apb said 450 days ago
:o)
.. excellent, go for it!

Make sure to send me some .mp3 mixes via mail
when you've get something to show - would love to hear
them.

bronco said 454 days ago
Cool
Very catchy tune with good use of synthesizers and electronic percussion.

SmokeyVW said 454 days ago
LOL
i've lost control of my right foot! it's stomping out the beat.
oh no! now my left one has been drawn in as well.

this is infectious.

may i have some more sir?

apb said 453 days ago
:o)
..when it gets to your knees and you start to bop and
sway from left to right .. your beyond saving ;o)

Thanks - I will expand it out to song length when I settle
on some direction issues.

MKVX said 454 days ago
India comes to mind...
... for some reason! I can just imagine these blaring out of one of those trucks they have in India that tons of people ride on. Yipes. The organic percussion and the pyschadelic riffs mixed with the techno beat and bassline. Interesting mix!

apb said 438 days ago
Thanks
.. I see what you mean - didn't get as far east as I would
have liked .. but India wasn't bad.

Since I have absolutely no idea what I am doing (particularily in this genre) .. I just mix in sounds I like: hence the
perhaps unorthodox blend of organic, synthetic and psychedelic.

I liked the 'ruler on desk' "boing-drr" percussion that oscillates L/R myself. :o)

jiguma said 453 days ago
BIG sound Alan
Great start to something special. So full. Love the title. Look forward to seeing where this gets to.

Ringmaster!
The idea of a musical circus is intriguing - freaks, dignitaries, high-wire daredevils with stratocasters and clowns playing trombones adding their acts and routines to the show.

What if each 'ring' of the circus was a specific MacJammer doing their particular thing with the basic sound, and they were sequenced and emceed by the ringmaster?

Very cool. I'm buying weekend tickets to the show.

apb said 425 days ago
Thanks Rik ..
.. sounds a little like The Rolling Stones "Rock n' roll circus" circa 1968.... but it's an interesting notion still ..
if only I could hear "ring master" and not smirk/giggle :o)

guitapick said 451 days ago
Yeah...
...this moves...looking forward to the development...can't help but be nice. Powerful stuff...

this
is the part of Sprokets when we dance!!!!
lol I love how punchy the kick is....there's that very low end sweeping "WOOMPH!!" that really shakes the floor and it's perfect....dig the splatty attack to the synths....good mix.....too short....I wanted more....that's my only gripe....good work as always
