Description Er it was one of those - I stayed awake for the last two days running and then tried to record something using a vsti. This is the kind of weird thing I used to do at university when an external examiner said that there was no logic between my key changes.who cares - I was imagining seeing the world through the eyes of a moth flittering away too far and heading for the moon.I read up about them afterwards - must be pretty mad to be blinded by a lightbulb only to find you cant remember that you were blinded by it the first time you flew towards it so you just whack your head on it again and get blinded again and you cant escape. In this abstract thing though it was sailing over the sea of tranquility and occasionally being distracted by the milky way and the odd metor shower

Relaxing
This is a very relaxing song like it and D-load it.
Thx for sharing.

Take care

paddler said 459 days ago
thanks skean
glad you found it relaxing - there are some weird bits in there though that would probably turn my dream into something sinister if i could actually sleep that is - the trouble with burning the candle at both ends is ones body forgets how to shut down when u want it to.

As light as moth flight
I'm a great believer in illogical key changes. And in banging my head on lightbulbs repeatedly.

I'm always impressed by your musical imagination Richard. It's what makes you stand out. You have all these great instrumental skills, but you take it a stage further by just letting your mind run free with it. Thanks for letting the rest of us share the flight.

paddler said 459 days ago
thanks rebs
its great to see someone else cruising around on macjams first thing on a monday morning when everyone else is going to work. This is work though I guess - creative research which I can pass on to future mj'ers. you know for fun when we were kids waiting for the bus we used to stand in the bus stop and take it in turns to jump as high as you could holding a can of beer without hitting the roof or spilling beer. The first one to really hurt himself was the winner.

Rebsie said 459 days ago

Work? Yeah, I tried that for about 14 years and didn't like it. I'm much happier now I spend my life arsing about on MacJams and staring out the window. Must try that thing with the beer cans.

My next job today though is finishing off that vocal track I owe you ...

paddler said 456 days ago
it just had to be said:-
nice arsing.

michael2 said 459 days ago
nicely done
what does thath mean "illogical?" Do you play the blues with a 1-2-4 chord progression? I really like this a bunch. Very nice piece of music.

paddler said 459 days ago
er..
i didn't understand the logic at the time - I mean we were learning about atonalism anyway so I dont know what the problem was - perhaps she didnt like the way i was improvising piano bare chested wearing a bullet belt and had individually burnt each one of the audience programs at the corners to make them look old or rather - just kind of burnt.no worries though - passed(just).Cheers mike! er blues is 1-4-5-1-3.4-6.2 recurring is it not?

Kool Keys
Sounded like a harp at first. Nice smooth progressions. Interesting changes from slow mellow to frenetic to playful :) Surprises around every phrase!

Thanks
Bill

paddler said 457 days ago
Thanks Bill
I know what you mean by harp - I wonder if the original rhodes was hammers and strings,is a beautiful instrument though my mate used to have one in his room and it was great to sit there all evening jamming around on it

How was your summer trip. Did you record on the road? Was it a busker's holiday?

paddler said 457 days ago
thanks bud

this is awseom ..very Impressed ..realy reminds
me of these 70s classics ..KUDOS !!

paddler said 457 days ago
70's
yeah one of my favourite bands was Hatfield and The North who used the rhodes beautifully in their songs. There was something about the 60's/70's music where they used particular chord progression - bit like the ones in 'lifes a long song' by jethro. Thanks Feter!

Roads and Rhodes
Pad,

Great to see you back man, I missed you somethin' awful. This is exactly what I need ed to start off my Monday morning. I don't have to go to work, what my bein' on the dole, as it were, at the moment. Screw the examiner, he didn't know art if it hit him in the face (or head, with a beer can in hand). I've always loved the sound of a Rhodes piano. It has the percussive soft pad of the vibes, another instrument that I adore. Wish I could play either. Anyway, wonderful piece. A real journey.

paddler said 457 days ago
Missed!
Thanks very much Racerat - its great hearing from everyone - hope I can return the comments.Best thing about the dole is when you dont worry about it and just get lots of stuff done without any pressure well - apart from eating cofee whitener and stuff.Still theres always credit - ahaha whoops. Its nice to find other people appreciate the journey thing - I often think I'm just out of my head - well most of the time I know I am.Coming over to your page soon!

Yep..................
Yes, this tune hits the spot.

I had the tune dowloaded at work and playing many times this afternoon.

It somehow reminded me of the keyboard style of Greg Rolie (early Santana) and the Beatles, but that's secondary to the tune itself.

It's great to hear you again after a short while (I hope you can say 'short while' in English without it being something only Tykes say).

Hope the weather on the moon's good enough for you.

I've seen meteors land in the remote desert of Saudia Arabia on a cloudless, star-filled night. Awesome.

Paul.

Paul you crack me up
hahaha.Tykes.Wow - Saudi Arabia sounds amazing - what a picture. Thanks Paul - am heading to yours very shortly

Who knows what that guy's problem was; all the changes here are as logical as in your "Zappa" song. Er.........

Chill improv space-out music, to be sure. Thank you for posting this.

suitcase rhodes
wow, what a great comp. Back in the day Febder Rhodes made these huge suitcase electric piano's. They had detachable stereo speakers that sounded fantisimo. This brings me back to those warm and fuzzy days. Brilliant stream of consciousness. Luv the moth analogy

Moviz said 455 days ago
Beautifully ...
ponderous and relaxingand it's what I need at the moment. I could listen to it forever, M

Soothing
Listening to this on headphones is a joy. Pleasant musical meanderings with a sound that just washes over the ears ever so soothingly. It's almost like it reboots my brain after a long week.

said 454 days ago
I had to stop back in
and tell you that I think this is one of the most satisfying things I've ever heard. This is noodling of a very high order. It ties in really well with your "Admit it" thread: there's something vaguely Debussy-ish or Saint-Saens-esque near the beginning, and then the change up at 3:38 is pure Lyle Mays..... talk about guilty pleasures! Thank you for this.

Diviner said 453 days ago
Nice jazz
This is a lovely track. Staying up for two days can do funny things to your head, but judging by this track it was worth it.
Great instrumental. A pleasureable listening experience.

Wow
I randomly picked another of your tracks to check out-this is fantastic playing. You are a talented guy.Beautiful improv.Illogical key changes are my favorite kind!
