Description An echoing experiment on the gb whirly (hence the title). Whily recorded in one take. Brush drums added after. I fixed the left hand's timing and kept the right in synch to smooth over the worst of my blunders, but I hope I saved some of the spontaneity of the original jam.

	This has a Harpsichord kind of sound and I love that title with a twist (with a TWIST... whirled... You get it? Used to have . . .
I used to have a Wurlitzer electric piano, which I bought around 1982. It was a nice instument for my little trailer I lived in. I did miss 88 keys, but it was nice to have this keyboard anyhow. This track reminds me of that keyboard that I should have hung on to.

Your piece is very interesting. Reminds me a bit of Wendy Carlos' Switched-On Bach. I like the echo effects a lot. Imaginative and cool. The mid-range ostinato really does glue this piece together. Makes the high-register improv that much more appealing.

The GarageBand/Clavinova combination seems to reproduce the Whirly and Rhodes sounds better than the B4 and Piano. Do you think the fancier software instruments like Akoustik Piano have the flexibility to adapt to the Clavinova as control keyboard?

Your rebuilding my music vocabulary, I had to look up ostinato to make sure I knew what it meant :) I actually used the ostinato instead of a metronome to keep my playing steady. Thanks for stopping by!!

Akoustic
Sure, I've used Akoustic Piano on my MacBook, with my Clavinova at my school as controller. Works great. And my Yamaha P-120 I use at home has an action which seems to me to be identical to my Clavinova. The downside for many folks is that with these controllers, there's no aftertouch, and no pitch-bend or modulation controllers. But since I am primarily interested in akoustic piano plug-ins, I don't miss those things too much.

"Ostinato" is a great word! That's one of the vocab words that I assign my kids at my school to memorize. Then I demonstrate an ostinato, using all sorts of crazy things, like patting my belly, spouting nonsense words/syllables, and just anything at all, as long as it's a repeating pattern. I like to try to 'find the fun' in any concept I'm trying to teach. And the kids really like the 'fun factor.' They can see that I'm still part kid, even though I'll soon be 48 years old. So then I have volunteers make up their own ostinato, and when they can see that it does not have to be anything too high-brow, or 'classical,' they can really have fun with it, and reinforce their music vocab at the same time.

	I must not have the ear I don't hear any blunders here. I think the brush drum is a nice addition and adds to the melody. The playing is very good. I can never seem to get the whrily piano to sound right with anything I try to make.

	btw I did a song called Why me (at the bottom of my long list) that tries the same "trick". So I kind of know how difficult it is to do this sort of music. --- Emotronics, and more twisted affairs of a modern state-machine

	Justbase- I am listening to your tune right now :) This is my second major experiment with long echos so I am starting to get a feel for the possibilities. I am glad you liked the results. I can play longer, but usually there are breaks in the rhythm that would be hard to edit out, so the best way to hear more is to play it again :)

	Spitlogic- Well the runs are improvisations so I suppose all restrictions are off. But to my mind I did get a little too free with the rhythm in the later long runs where the echo covers the sloppiness rather than enhancing it as in the shorter runs. Thanks for your comments!

	Alan Glad you like the tune, and the punny title. I am playing around with a more intentional take on this idea but I will work on the ending of this one. There is a little slow down in the right hand that seems to work, but I didn't really solve the drum problem. Back the the garage.
