Description Imagine yourself in 18th century Spain.Guitarist Santiago De Murcia plugs in his Ibanez Stratocaster and begins to play...well this song should be played on nylon string but I am again forced to play electric because of left hand pain.Hope you like it anyway!
Lyrics Dedicated to 18th century guitarist-composer Santiago de Murcia
Lyrics:
Gonna write a little email gonna send it to my local satellite radio station

It's a rockin' little mp3 I want my automated DJ to play

Roll over Santiago tell Fernando Sor the news

(chorus)
Roll over Santiago
Roll over Santiago
Roll over Santiago
Roll over Santiago
Check out this baroque music played on electric guitar!

(The vocals are pretty far back in the mix so you might not be able to hear them)

Thanks
for your comments.Always good to hear from you.

Bubowski said 472 days ago
Superb...
It's not easy to make a classical guitar piece sound good on an electric, but this sounds very nice. Great job!

Ibstrat said 471 days ago
Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it .Really liked your keyboard improv.I'd like to hear some more of your music.

Moviz said 472 days ago
How
could anyone not like it? Just wonderful artistry which sounds great on electric. Very Mediaeval sounding of course, Regards M

Ibstrat said 470 days ago
Well
Andres Segovia probably wouldn't have been to keen on it -he thought the electric guitar was an abomination.
Thank you for your kind words.

peacepiano said 472 days ago
Sweet
Very much enjoyed.

Thanks
Bill

Thanks for checking it out!

warmth of electric Spain
Interesting to hear this kind of music on electric, played by such a great guitarist. Nice baroque beauty in the music, and the electric tone gives this a buzzy warmth. You play (seemingly) effortlessly, this is very smooth, despite your hand pain... I cannot even imagine how you played this!? I hope your hand gets better, thank you for sharing such a nice piece!
ttfn,
Drakonis

Ibstrat said 470 days ago
Thank you
The thing with my hand is a long story.Basically the nerves in my fingers have become ultra-hypersensitive to certain things(like playing acoustic guitar). As long as I avoid setting off this bizarre pain reaction I am OK.It's been going on for years.
Thanks alot for your comments!

Thanks for listening
I'm dealing with it pretty well-thanks for your support.

guitapick said 471 days ago
You know...
...you get such a great sound out of that electric. Pretty darn amazing, Mark.
Love the variations. Fernando would be impressed. As would Mr. Weiss. Right up his alley.
Sounds great, Mark.

Ibstrat said 470 days ago
Weiss
Back in the 50's and 60's Andres Segovia had his friend Manuel
Ponce compose several baroque suites which they falsely attributed to Weiss. They got a big kick out of Know-it-all critics who never realized that the music wasn't written by Weiss.I think it was years before anyone figured it out.
Anyway,I really appreciate your positive feed back. Thanks

A lot of people don't realize...
...how much of a connection there was between the later works of de Murcia and the chamber works of Nigel Tufnel...

You know, Mark, I warned people on MacJams that you were coming..."He's a great, great guitarist...and then there's his sense of humor..."

Sure, this is classical, but it reminds me very much of some of John Renbourn's classical/baroque/early music adaptations, especially on 'Lady And The Unicorn', on some of which he used an electric guitar and achieved a similarly elegant tone...

You're another one, Mark, who has achieved precision, and excellent time, without making everything sound like a scholarly exercise. Music is really music when you play it...

So...would it hurt your hand any more if you plugged in a distortion pedal one of these times?

Hey, I'm going camping again! Twice! NExt two weekends! I'll let you know if I see a spotted loquacious gracklewhooper...

Tufnel
I've heard that Nigel Tufnel has a huge collection of live de Murcia bootlegs.Supposedly he owns a tape of de Murcia jamming with Hendrix and 5-year-old Eddie van Halen.
That John Rebourn album is one of my favorites. One of the first classical pieces I ever learned was the "sarabande"
from that album.
As far as distortion pedal...yea but I would have to figure out how to use a drum machine or loops about which I am completely clueless.Maybe eventually.
Have fun camping-you should be on the lookout for
the Great Lesser Crested Bee-eating Flycatcher which is migrating this time of year.

ya know
there are only a few times in life when you get to hear something so beautifull. My time was when a friend of mine who studied classical violin would just play on an on. This brought me back thanks loved it !

Ibstrat said 470 days ago
Violin
is a great instrument.Wish I could play it but I can't.Glad you liked the song thanks for commenting.

Ibstrat said 470 days ago
Thanks
Just listened to your "Happiness piece"- very nice!Thank you for listening.

Vic Holman said 470 days ago
wonderful
well the purists might balk. But I think classical sounds great on electrics as well.

I feel your pain about the finger problem. my ring finger on my picking hand went ultra-sensitive and slightly numb for a while. Kind of horrifying when you hybrid pick a lot. Still is a little numb, but not enough to stop me. Hope your fingers can recupe some.

Ibstrat said 469 days ago
This thing
with my hand has been going on so long that I'm not too optimistic of ever fully recovering. However,it doesn't seem to be getting worse, and I'm thankful that I can play on electric. Thanks alot for listening to my music.I'm enjoying your page immensely.

damiengh said 470 days ago
tasty
Glad your taking that pain as a warning and have found a way to keep playing. Oh, the frustrations of guitar players. (hot & cold, hot & cold......)

Maybe a little Alexander technique added to your life might be the trick, but hell, that's almost like learning a new axe. Oh well.

Loved this one and how you play so cleanly.

Ibstrat said 469 days ago
Maybe
I should try Alexander technique-never thought of that one. Thanks for your positive comments!

An early Bachish feel and with the electric guitar, it becomes a real treat indeed. This was a terrifc listen.

Beautiful.
Beautifully played. Yes, it does sound electric, there's no denying that, but it does convey very well a medieval/baroque sort of feel.

Your intonation and technique are top-notch. What a pleasure. You must have practiced for years.
