Tobin... ...this is very intresting. Very high standard indeed. Not my cup of tea this kind of stuff at all, but I can see the quality oozing through. Congratulations on a great composition. Professional standard music. Phil |

clarity I notice what has become sort of a signature sound for you. The piano has a very distinct and clear sound, and you play every note with great precision. Every little detail in both singing and instrumentation seems to have your full attention at all time. I'm guessing you keep your wardrobe lined up in perfect order;) I like that you have made the song dynamic with it's late entrance of the full band. The magic of that brought a little chill (positive) my way:) And I applause to the way you let your voice almost break when you sing "Only you open up the world". And again perfectly placed (to the meaning of the songs lyrics), even though I suspect it wasn't intentional at first? You should do more of that.. let your self be a little naughty sometime;) I think it brings more warmth and nearness to your music when you do that. Very good melody. I could easily see this performed in a theater as a part of a dramatized play. |

Hey Tobin when I look at the body of your work, (that I'm familiar with), I notice that your melodies often follow a mode... which I can't identify because I'm not musically educated.... the result is a very modern and sophisticated sounding... this song,on the other hand, is more simple in it offering... the intro is less complex and more accessible to the mainstream ear.... and the melody really flows naturally... I still recognize something of your signature sound... the emotional build is brilliantly performed and produced... your one of my favorite producers on the net... I would pick you to produce me, if I had a deal or some such thing... you pay attention to the minutia without loosing sight of the whole... and you've had your ears all over everything, so you are able to authentically cover so much ground... |

Funny... ...I always listen first and then read the description. During the listen, I'm thinking: "...bet he likes Sondheim". Beautiful tune, Tobin. Orchestration/performance/production's spot on and the lyrics are so well thought out and from the heart. Kudos, sir... |

This one really shows off... ...your lyric writing abilities... Really solid there... You sound a little hoarse at spots here, or is that my ears? A different quality in the voice at times... And I'm not complaining...the vocal sounds very real... Nice big anthem quality... Gotta get this on that next Mandy Potemkin (sp?) album... It certainly continues from that Tobin place of strength in theatrical music... Very strong... Ed |
