Keywords Politics (34)Tony Blair (2)John Prescott (1)Strikes (1)
Description It's Politics this time! Not aimed at anyone in particular - although there are some obvious references. I recorded a song called 'Bring Back Maggie' (which was tongue in cheek by the way) and this is a follow-up really. I don't have much time for any of our current political parties - they seem to say the right things and then do the opposite.
Lyrics Spin

Politicians are an enigma to me
A load of hypocrites with a vision they alone can see
Giving with one hand with the they’re taking more
Taxing the rich to help support the poor

But spare a thought for the middle man
Who works hard to bring home what he can
And if he is down on his luck
Guaranteed from you he’ll never get a buck

I can do without another winter of discontent
Scraping and saving just to pay my rent
Allowance payments that you made
Are now just another debt that has to be repaid

Strikes, power cuts, 3-day weeks
galloping infation, rubbish on the streets
The country can run itself when the deputy’s in charge
He’s busy entertaining and being driven in luxury cars

So goodbye Tony that smile I won’t miss at all
But your replacement he’s even worse
That’s the man who stole our pensions away
I wonder how long in power that man will stay

So spin spin spin and spin again
You no longer can tell truth from lies
So spin spin spin you’re spining out of control
Lining your own pockets and pretending that it’s not so
Hardware Epiphone Les Paul, Taylor 110 acoustic, Yamaha DGX300 keyboard. Tamborine and early learning centre shaker!

Guitar Sounds
Hey Peter, nice new song. I really like the rhythm guitar riff. Even though it's pretty crispy clean, it has an intensity about it. Your vocals are really sounding good as well.

I bet you were an Early Learning Centre Shaker in your day!

Spin spin spin and spin again!

Cheers Bob
I've had this one sitting around for a while and thought it was about time I got round to recording it. It came together quite quickly once I got going. I need to add some instruments to my cupboard - the early learning shaker is at least an advance on the slug pellets I've used before.

Thanks for listening.

I think....
... should ask for a receipt!

Peter, I'm all smiles on this. I really love the rhythm guitar work here on top of this really well done song. Just excellent!

Peter Bauckham said 500 days ago
Thanks Vic
I've just been listening to your latest - which is so good BTW. Glad you're enjoying this one - I've been having a break from recording (and playing) so it's good to hear that the rhythm playing is up to scratch.

Thanks
Peter

Good singing
Think you did a very nice job singing on this one. Well done. Really nice guitars and production, too.
Always liked your stuff and once again, well-done!

Outstanding Peter!
Roy Orbison lives in you man. This is solid through and through. I really dig your voice. Great lyrics but if I spun that much I'd get all dizzy and puke ;-P Thanks for being here.

Great track
At last ... a new tack from you, This one rocks along nicely - with a kinda Police feel in the rhythm guitar. Nice production and a suucinct, honest lyric - well done that man!

Not that you've mentioned my lack of output! Thanks for listening Steve - Hope it's been worth the wait!

Hi Peter
This is a really clear and precise recording I must say. Good song with a good rant here LOL. Only thing I noticed that didn't gel, was the line "Taxing the rich to help support the poor", because I always thought it was the other way about, don't you agree??? I have a couple of poems on a similar theme that I wrote when the Conservatives were in power LOL, so politicians are all the same... self serving actors with the gift of the 'gab'. Regards M

Peter Bauckham said 500 days ago
Well
they just tax the hell out of us all really don't they...! Several years ago I was made redundant and wasn't entitled to a penny despite having a huge (seemed that way at the time) mortage. Thankfully I found a new job within a few weeks (and have been here ever since).

Cheers for dropping by,
Peter

Better the
Devil you know than the Devil you dont ....right? It was strange how Tony loved G.W. at first then when his popularity started to fall Tony started to question W's intentions ......stupid politicions .......Great song man ,good job with the vocals , the playing is very crisp and clean and the mix sounds pro ...nicely done man .

Peter Bauckham said 500 days ago
Thanks DJ
It's always good the read your comments. Glad to see I haven't been too controversial with the one! It's the same old story with politicians - promises made, broken and forgotten.

Thanks for dropping by

Very Nice____
Nicely arranged and produced. Well played and sung. Music and politics sometimes just seem to mix well together. A song with a message. I truely enjoyed.

Thanks for sharing,

mvh : )

Thanks Michael
I think your right - music and politics do complement each other. Glad you enjoyed this one and thank you for listening.

Good song!
You sound a bit like an English Neil Young on this one....I can almost visualise you on stage with Crazy Horse doing this track!
Good to hear more protest music on MJ, I agree with the sentiments!
Cheers
Steve

Peter Bauckham said 499 days ago
Thanks Steve
for your continued support. I do like a good protest song but I'm always a little bit nervous about upsetting people by voicing too many opinions - but I couldn't resist this time.

Thanks for listening - glad you enjoyed it.

Ya peter
you really did a terrific job here. Your words are so in-tune with the beat and music it is amazing. You have an incredible way with words. You really hit home and drive terrific points of view.

Way to go.

As was said, the guitar really has a cool hypnotizing effect. Well done cool soft rockin feel!

Peter Bauckham said 499 days ago
Thank you
for listening and for your wonderful comments. I think many of us are fed up with our politicians - the sad thing is that who ever we have in power the result seems to be much the same.

Thanks again

Great tune...
Reminds me why I am a Libertarian. Statist politicians are all alike. Nuff said!

Nice chord progression. Nicely written and sung lyrics. Bass could've been a tad more forward but all in all this is a wonderful piece Peter. Also LOVE all the great background sounds in this. They give it a cool ambience.

Be well friend!

Peter Bauckham said 499 days ago
Mike
thanks - Those effects came about by chance - I put the guitar though a delay gate effect and scraped down the strings. I did the mastering on this, and Graffiti, through headphones rather than my usual hi-fi set-up, and it's impossible for me to judge bass levels through those as they clip at any serious levels - I'll re-master these when I've got the house to myself and can wack the volume up! Domestic bliss...

Thanks you for your continued support.

Yes but..
will Gordon be any better? He's a bit more old school socialism, so let's keep our fingers crossed. Nice guitar by the way!

Peter Bauckham said 499 days ago
I expect
it'll be more of the same - I'm finding it difficult to tell any of the main parties from each other. Thanks for dropping by.

lush!
No, I don't mean, me, I mean the depth and the number of sonic layers in this seemingly simple recording. All the sounds are very nicely chosen, then recorded, then laid against each other. Very tasty recording.

Also a nice screed against the current head-of-state.

Nice stuff, Peter!

Peter Bauckham said 495 days ago
Thanks
for listening. Yeah, there are quite a few layers of guitars here to create the rhythm track - although fewer than on some of my recordings - I try to keep most parts away from the centre so the vocals don't get swamped, which I always find the hardest part to mix.

Thanks for dropping by

I can think of something Tone could spin on
How I longed and longed for the day when that grinning tufty-forelocked warmonger would step aside but somehow it's ended up being more of the same. I guess they're all as bad as each other. I did briefly discover a new found respect for John Prescott when I saw him smack one of his constituents in the gob, but it didn't last long.

Very nice song Peter ... great melodies, nice guitar playing and cohesive production. Very enjoyable.

Phew, I'm glad you explained that 'Bring Back Maggie' was tongue-in-cheek ... had me worried for a moment there. ;)

Peter Bauckham said 492 days ago
Hahaha
I can think of something he could spin on too! Well at last he's gone and as you say it's more of the same - we live in hope!

Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for dropping by.

I adore your voice. It's the kind of tone and vibrato I like!

Great guitar and embellishments.

Peter Bauckham said 479 days ago
Thank you
for listening - I'm getting a bit more confident with singing but still tend to hide behind the backing. I not brave enough to do upload an arrangement like your 'Metamorphoses'!

Thoughts from the Bull...
You know, I'm guilty of missing some of the best music because there's so much. How I missed this from you is a mystery to me. Once again, not disappointed here.

your unique and sweet vocal delivery only leads to charm in the musical stage on which it's set.

everything here is tight and sounds fantastic. great attack on the guitar on this. lyrically smart!

This is obviously political, but can easily applied in other walks of life.

thanks always!

Peter Bauckham said 255 days ago
Thanks Mark
I'm glad you found this anyway and it's great to 'see' you around here again. You only have to miss a few days and you get so behind - it's almost impossible to catch up.

Really enjoying your new tune.

All the best
Peter
