Description Usually it takes me two weeks to get my act together and finish a song. This one came about in a moment of inspiration and I managed to get it down in a few days.

The story is kind of based on another of my drawings from quite a long time ago.
Lyrics Pursuit of Diamonds

riding through the desert in this wasteland
bright diamonds I see out of my reach
if I could lasso the universe and pull it down
it's a twinkle in my eye

campfire outlaw wonders can I steal from god
diamonds are forever could I shoot them down
if I could lasso the universe and pull it down
it's a twinkle in my eye
diamond are a girls best friend

chorus:
storm the gates of heaven
both barrels blazin'
who is in charge of this town
my pockets are empty
I don't want your money
just give me your diamonds please

climbing up the stairway to heaven
one way heaven one way hell first I'll set a spell
if I could lasso the universe and pull it down
it's a twinkle in my eye
diamond are a girls best friend

chorus:
storm the gates of heaven
both barrels blazin'
who is in charge of this town
my pockets are empty
I don't want your money
just give me your diamonds please

diamond are a girls best friend

chorus:
storm the gates of heaven
both barrels blazin'
who is in charge of this town
my pockets are empty
I don't want your money
just give me your diamonds please

What? No description?
Just a really cool picture.
Oh - BTW - Firsties!
I'm flying to Austin Texas tomorrow for a shoot - maybe see a cowboy or two.
A real masterful number you got here Vic - I love the insistent beat in the chorus and as ever you're slingin' a mean geetar in this one (both barrels blazin'). Excellent tune. I hear a little Joe Walsh on the way out of town on the fade there.

same applies as the last, except I used my DOT more, ( like a gibson 335 semi hollow body).

I was going to post this Tues. But I'm glad I got it up before you took off. That would of thrown our whole routine off. :-)

Good luck in Texas. and don't tuck your pants inside the cowboy boots.

Nice tune!
I always look forward to getting the email note telling me you've posted a new tune. Really enjoyed this one, Vic!

Vic Holman said 514 days ago
Thanks Mike
usually it takes me a good 2 weeks to get something up. this was done in a few days.
Almost as fast as my AOL account. thats not saying a lot. Plus, I'm bad about checking emails at home.

Getting close on your song?

Hey! Way cool Vic!
This is a bit of a departure for you bro. From the vocal melody to the nice keys in the background. The chorus is wicked good! I also really dig these lyrics. And here comes the stellar lead soloing! And that phased lead in the outro is wonderful...Yup! This one came in a moment of inspiration! More please!

Be well!

Vic Holman said 514 days ago
a little different
As you probably have now found there are hundreds of synth voices in Logic. I happened on this voice right off the bat. Usually I give up when I can't hear exactly what I need.
This drawing is one of many on the wall in my recording room. This with alot others I displayed at a gallery a long time ago. The fun part was listening to the meaning that other people would come up with.

Cool!!! Space Cowboys/Bandits :-)
Great graphic! But I thought a good guy was a girl's best friend. (unless going to the stupid mall is involved) You know, like that old movie, "It's a Wonderful Life", (lassoing the moon :-) ) Diamond bright stars in a clear night sky - beautiful just where they are - a beautiful experience to share. :-) I know Vic...not the point - But I'm in a very happy mood tonight - the 30.06 with the skewed sights is put up for the time being. I love the lyrics though - very creative images! And the artwork is wonderful. The first part of the music sounds very contemplative, and the whole piece is great! Sorry about the girl comment :-)

Vic Holman said 514 days ago
Scenes from a mall
that is so dead on. I had a laugh on that. Guys just aren't into shopping. Unless it's big screen TV's and and other electric toys.

True this outlaw (spaced) cowboy has salt pork and beans for brains, but it made for a interesting story. I always think a picture tells a thousand stories. I tend to like the more absurb.

This time I didn't need a box fan ;-)

A change of feeling
Somehow this sounds more comtemplative than your usual stuff.

Excellent layering and the lyrics are very good. Splendid imagery in both your picture and the music.

Nice one :-)

Cheers

Dick

Vic Holman said 513 days ago
change is good
I need to mix it up more. This one came faster then I could lay down tracks for it. If I could only have more days like that. This outlaw is motorcycle girl's type. I also checked out that link on your comment.

Thanks Dick!

you always impressed me of your imagenations
and creativity in summin and arranging your music
you are one of those who realy successfull in
approaching their music ,if I close my eyes
I won't think this is anything but a real Classical
rock music where everything sound pure and cool
as these years were ...Kudos my freind !!!

Vic Holman said 513 days ago
Thanks Feter
Classic rock seems to be timeless and never goes away. A lot of it's feel must be ingrained in me. But I try to give it a fresh approach. When I'm lucky of course.

Big sound Vic
Love the vocal, guitars, drums, bass, production - very Bowie, very Beatles (as usual). Also a little Marc Bolan - all good!
Love this one Vic.

I broke a rule. one of the verse chords is two chords in one.
But everything else including the chorus is fragmented chords.I wish more songs would come to as fast and easy as this one did.

Vic Holman said 513 days ago
Thanks McBoy
Now you got the campfire scene from Blazing Saddles in my head. ha!

I always get the guitar tones down before I hit record. Less headaches and it's the closest I can experience a live situation. For some reason people don't invite me to jam with there bands anymore. Oh well my computer doesn't complain

.. Mr. Vic didn't send me a note to his song, but i'm really glad to find you back with new piece !
i can't stop saying that all of your stuff are amazing and this one for me (PART 2) of FOREVER YESTERDAY, really great song, the tone is little strange but great, nice vocal and what a great artwork, was that you who draw it ?
Mr. Vic this one is amazing and beautifully played, loved it !
Keep up the good work

Vic Holman said 513 days ago
Sorry about that Yeman
I ran out of time last night to let you know. I was going to inform you today but you beat me to it.

A great thing about the guitar is you can find many ways to get a variety of tones out of it. The first guitar at the beginning has a wah pedal sitting in one position to give it a filtered effect. The outro guitar had a slow flange effect to it.

This drawing I did a long time ago. It's older then you are. It also inspired the lyrics.

Thanks Yeman

What else can I say!
i cant always say your newset tune is your best ... it just always seems this way. Great guitars and mix, but i think this vocal is just aces Vic - you kinda lay back on it and it sounds sweet, really tuneful but loads of rugged character, then up the aggression when the track needs it.

You are an undiscovered diamond, man!

Steve

Vic Holman said 513 days ago
Thanks Steve
I'm pretty happy with this tune...so far. This did give me a better chance to get in a different realm.

But I still look forward to getting a instructional DVD of the Echoroom strategy of singing. And I hope it includes additional bonuses of your covers of Soft Cells Tainted Love and Bowies 1984.

Well one can dream can't one.

delayed
The dvd has been delayed, until i can find a younger, better looking person to use as a stand-in.

you know, being a structural control -freak, one of the things i really like about your work is how well the songs are structured - no fat, every part there for a reason.

I'll send you a free copy of the dvd when we finally get round to doing a duet!

you have been commenting on my songs for some time and i think hat it is about time for me to step out of my shell and participate. that said i really like the mix and your guitar playing. i am a huge fan of vocal melody. i think it is the make or break of a song. i think you could improve by getting farther away from the instrument melody with the vocal melody. i feel they mirror each other too much. i think youc ould find that the uniqueness of your voice ould stand out more. it is a little like the almond (it really isnt almond is it) brothers double guitar solo. sound cool but it is just to guitars stepping through a harmony together.
the art fits perfectly.
but at heart i am a three chord county folk kind of guy and that is a whole different approch.
tim
i also have a dieing keybord

Vic Holman said 511 days ago
Thanks Tim
I agree on what you say about vocal melody. That's why I commented above to wanting a Echroom instructional DVD. That is something I really need to get in the mind frame of.

Thanks again Tim. it is good to hear from you.

Love the art and song vic, you are a creative soul full of light...you rock on with the rock gods...this seem more raw and rambunctious than usual perhaps less takes, if so, I prefer this more live one take sound from you really gels well with music, kick ass mang you rock hardcore
!

Hey Tom
Thanks. For a long time I thought you where in graphic design because of the avatars you have had up. Until I noticed in some of your comments that you worked in the medical field. I would like to see you art posted as well.

I'm probably coming around full circle. When I first came here 3 years ago I was more rocking. Almost all those songs I removed a long time ago. Thinking i would get them redone. They're still waiting.

and a song to match. Everything fits; the sound is massively 'open' and the words are so unusual. It could be the song to a movie, M

Vic Holman said 510 days ago

Unusual story for sure. I' m taking a closer work about some of my older drawings to tell a story for them. Might make the lyric process a little easier. Not to mention I have some drawing that are weirder yet.

Thanks again for the listen

classic. i'm gonna start calling you Naz Nomad.

Vic Holman said 509 days ago

Naz Nomad? I've been called a lot of things in my time. But that's a new one. But your going to have to add a middle name that starts with a N as well.
Maybe Needer.
Hmmm..... Naz Needer Nomad. Has a ring to it.

naz nomad was the garage rock all covers side project of the guys in the damned. they did stuff like "too much to dream." this song kind of feels like a seeds song in a way.

Vic Holman said 509 days ago
oh wow
I didn't know that the damned did that. Been quite a number of years since I listened to a record of theres.

But can I still keep the name Naz Needler Nomad?

The new James Bond...
I love the groove you got goin on here!
Dign' the g'tar in this, big time. And I REALLY like the vox on this, too.

I can't believe that you were able to put this together in such a short period of time. That almost irritates me, a bit. I guess, you could call that last statement, a sideways compliment. Cause this is nicely arranged and the production is pretty top notchn'

Now, are you playing the bass on this? Regardless, nice job there, on the low end of audiable frequencies.

Well... I'm thinkn' you earned some pretty high marks on this. An exceptional job, ESPECIALLY, given the short period of time that you put this together in.

Exceptional writing!

Thanks! Dion

Vic Holman said 509 days ago
Thanks Dion
Actually I can't believe it either. Just a lucky day I figure. The sad part is when it's over to fast and you feel like you want to keep playing on it.

Yup, I play bass as well. I aslo play the drums on the keyboard

Kind of a Satriani playing and Dylan singin. Cool arpeggios.

With a touch of Police coolness too.

But original totally!

Late Again...
...and a tune about comboys and space, with Saturn and fleece-coated cowpokes too. Sorry it took me so long to drop in; I've been running late all summer due to a huge workload. Bloody real life...

You just keep getting sharper with each tune, Vic. The graphic is amazing; it reminds me of the covers of countless Ray Bradbury and Isaac Asimov paperbacks I read as a yoot, sitting on the back porch on a summer afternoon, lost in space because R is for Rocket and S is for Space.

Ever think of doing a CD? No kidding; your art and music make a potent combo and I'd buy it sight unseen.

Vic Holman said 503 days ago

Summer? It was here? I hear you, I've been so busy no summer vaca.

Space and Cowboys just seem to go together.....and buxom blondes.

No, no CD is planned. It's free
