Description Here's the latest song from Amokopera and further proof that the drugs don't work.

The politician has just made his pitch in the pub and it all goes a little mad. Cacophony, dissonance and madness was the aim.

With many thanks to (using their aliases) Biba-nova, echoroom and Vic Holman for their contributions. They're all there somewhere.

TBH I think I've overcooked this and gone too far with the cacophony but I'll wait for the responses before looking at a remix.

Cheers

Dick

Garageband, Strat, Boss G8, K. Yairi 6 string acoustic, Yamaha 10 string (it started with 12), Samson C01, Tascam US-122, various bits of wood, my desk, a hoover, numerous cans of beer, a box of matches, a cigarette lighter, bottles, glasses, mobile phone, loads of voices, a pool table, unnecessary reverb, a vaguely unhinged mind.

Great stuff
This is one opera I would like to see. Brilliant production - good to hear such a very British voice - and a very big nod to the Who.
Very impressive.

Pinball wazzock :-)
I didn't realise that's what it was until someone mentioned it. For once it wasn't a deliberate copy.

Thanks for the comments.

wow dick
this is just wicked. I had no idea how it would end up. totally amazed at your skills.

Quite a piece with your wailing guitars and all. Your vocal on the acoustic part reminds me a bit of chris difford of squeeze. the accent I guess.

Thanks for letting me be a minor player here.

I had no idea either
I tried just an vocal and noises version but it didn't work.

I'm pleased you enjoyed it and thanks for your input :-)

On the March
Sounds like everything is running "Amok" and corruption is on the March. Guitars and vocals are right on. I don't know enough about sound effects to know if they are "overcooked" but it sounds pretty cool to me. I think I am getting an idea of how the whole opera is going to work. This is a lot of fun to follow. Thanks for sharing.

DWL said 512 days ago
Amok is what I wanted!
but i'm still not sure about it ;-)

Maybe it'll grow on me!

Thanks

Cheers

This sounds great
I wasn't quite expecting this after listening to the original reference track.

I don't think you have overcooked this at all and there is no such thing as unnecessary reverb (compared to some of my tracks, this is dry!!!!)

:-)

Great job here....love the guitar work and for some reason I am getting an early Bowie vibe from this.

Glad I could help with this

b

I didn't know what to expect either!
I have to thank you for unwittingly giving me the idea in the first place and also for the your contribution :-)

I hope I you didn't feel you'd wasted your time.

Interesting mix
The mix works despite the fact that it is unconventional in that the major elements except for the voice are way back in the mix. I expected the guitar to jump out of the back and give us a kick in the arse along in there somewhere. Maybe the waiting and not getting the kick is what makes this work.

good lyrics well sung

DWL said 511 days ago
If I knew what I was doing
it would be a miracle :-)

I played with this mix for so long I was sick of it.

I do know that now I have to do something about the vocal and the overall level.

Comments much appreciated.

nicely done!
B sent me here for a listen--glad he did.

I like how this weaves in and out of the 'live scene' with the voices and background ambience and the singing and guitars.

nicely done! :)

Thanks!
I'm pleased B felt confident enough of what I'd done to send you over.

Thanks for dropping by :-)

Fookin hell
Dick - It's so weird hearing this with the instruments, rather than just your backing vocals. i think the intro works fine - chaos and cacophony all around. Personally, i'd make the SOC vocals line a bit more obvious/upfront second time around (the solo rightly takes lead third time around). i think the production is fine, and i think it's unbelievable that your musical talent isn't recognised as it should be.

I'm sure you have moments of doubt, as we all do, but you're creating something unique here, and I hope to god it gets a wider audience... take this as a compliment, i think you're writing 'The Wall' for this generation, and it's a pleasure to watch it come together.

Thanks Steve
apologies, I thought I'd already answered these last few posts???

I really appreciate the comments. Judging by a current thread we all suffer from self doubt.

I'm pleased you enjoyed it. I almost gave up on it a number of times as I couldn't get anywhere near what I wanted but I think it was the Bowie vox that pulled it together. Thanks :-)

Whew...
...just too cool, man. Love that wah Strat in the back.

Awesome leads back there, too, behind the vox.

This is really great, Dick...

Thanks Mr G
it turned out OK in the end. Thanks for the comments on the guitar as I wasn't too happy but I'd spent so long on it I couldn't face redoing it :)

Well...
...let's not get too picky here, Dick. I know the feeling...but, essentially: the guitars rock, my friend. Seriously...

You ROCK Mr. Langford...You rock indeed!

Fabulous vocal delivery (Love your accent...I'd like to hear you cover the Kink's "Dedicated Follower Of Fashion." Ha ha...) Nice guitar and bass work. Fully loaded psychedlic mix! Well done!

Take care!

Another Gem
Your opera is going to be great! This is another excellent song.

The cacophony is great and the guitar solo, with the pan from left to right and back again, is a classic.

Lyrics, melody and arrangement are first rate.

Monkaton said 305 days ago
I Forgot to Mention
While there is a Who sound with the acoustic guitar, the lyrics remind me of the Kinks. The cacophony reminds me of XTC.

Good luck with the opera. It sounds great.
