Description This is a 'boat song' that was originally written as a classical guitar duet, but is here transcribed for two english horns & a harp, with a little bassoon bass line. Truly a 'fantasy orchestra' piece, as I doubt there exists such an ensemble. (If you know of one, let me know). I'm in a bit of a creative 'dry spell' right now, so I'm working through pieces that I've always said "I'd like to tweak it, but I don't have time right now." about. Anyway, it's very conservative in form and style, but I think it's a pleasant, uplifting piece, and after listening to the tiler's "Joy', I figured I'd add my own little bit of happiness to the mix here on MJ.

Nice and soothing
Nice and soothing. Would be very nice to hear this also as a classical
guitar duet! (Even though this arrangement is wonderful in itself).

Nice and soothing
Cori, I'm glad you thought this was soothing. I just read that January 23 is the
'worst' day of the year for the North American population in general, because of
weather, lack of sunlight, bills from Christmas, broken New Years resolutions
and a host of other things. maybe this will help sooth the folks who are a little
bit 'down' today, eh?

Nice and soothing
Think I know how you feel in US concerning weather, only in Alaska you find
more lack of sunlight than we have ... Seem like I will never get used ...

God Bless!

Wonderful
Most excellent composition Kristine. I felt I could hear the gondoliers
singing.

God bless,

Rick

Wonderful
It's nice to hear what others envision when listening to a piece I've written.
Thanks for listening.

You described it best...
...when you said it was "pleasant" because that is certainly the word
that comes to mind. It is a very easy going and happy tune. I agree with
Cori in that I'd love to hear it as a guitar duet!

kristyjo said 1044 days ago
You described it best...
Thanks, Emily. I find that my first attempts at using GarageBand were to write
music that was big and 'stands out', but I'm not a very extroverted person, so
maybe this is more my style of writing and 'performing'. I'm glad you found it
pleasant to listen to.

Dreamlike . . .
. . . is the word which comes to mind. Excellent production and
concept. Keep them coming! You have a great talent for composition
and music production.

Thanks for listening, John. It's always great to get encouragement from a fellow
educator!

Subtle beauty
You've created an incredibly light atmosphere with powerfully subtle
hints of darkness. Downloaded

Drifting in loveliness...
I love that this song is so serene, yet moves...glides, really, from one
musical thought to the next. Lulling. Calming. Soothing.

I'd love to see more music like this, really.
Very nice :)

A Very Pleasant Fantasy
Apparently the "fantasy" ensemble DOES exist... here and now... bringing
some needed serenity to the group.

A lovely, lilting piece, Kristine. Nicely conceived, orchestrated and
performed.

A Very Pleasant Fantasy
Joe, and everyone else who took time to comment this week -
Thanks for listening, and sharing your comments this week. It's really good to
come home from a couple of days of slightly stressful work to find that other
fine musicians such as yourselves took the time to encourage a fellow
MacJammer. I'll be sure to do some listening to your individual contributions
as time allows. I just got the bad (but frankly expected) news that all the rest
of our schools are switching from Mac to PC platforms in the next couple of
years, because the school administration software they invested in so
(foolishly) heavily only supports PCs. Oh well, we've been moving away from
creative, individualizing use of computers in our schools to rigid, 'big brother
is keeping an eye on every keystroke' use, so the real 'death' of creative
computer use happened in our district long ago. Like I said, it's good to come
home to find that other creative people are still around, using their Macs to
make the world a better place.

Really delightful.
These are some of my favorite JP4 instruments and you've really complemented them with this piece. Or have you complemented this piece with the instruments? Either way it's completely charming.

Skean,
Thanks for commenting. It's always a pleasant surprise to read comments on a
piece I submitted few months ago. It helps me feel the continuity and
community we have here at MacJams.

A Marvellous Piece
This is a very beautiful piece that almost seems like Mozart, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky rolled into one. I wish I had a whole CD of stuff like this to study for physics. You are so very talented!

Sweet
Kristine your prolific output amazes me, all the more so because I
know that you are a mom, teacher, and church organist. I'm not sure
where you find the time to write music, but I'm sure glad that you do!

Not much to add to others' comments here, except to agree that it is
calming, soothing, dreamlike, and I hear some nostalgia in there too.

The reverb got to me after a while, though... Not sure if that was added
by you, or if the software instruments you used already have reverb. If
it was the former, I'd be curious to hear this done with little or no
reverb.

Have you considered doing some variations on this?

Alternatively, have you considered doing a suite of short character
pieces for this instrumentation? I sometimes ask my composition
students to write a different character piece every week for something
like six weeks; most find it an enjoyable challenge, and a great way to
further hone one's skills.

Please ignore these suggestions if they don't appeal to you! It's not as
if you don't have enough going on in your life right now!

Look forward to hearing more of your music.
