Keywords barrel of the kells (2)harmony assistant (15)carol of the bells (6)bagpipes (11)drakonis (56)ukraine (6)bells (44)shchedryk (4)
Description By popular demand, I have completed the tongue-in-cheek full piece of "Carol of the Bells" for bagpipes from an earlier skit for a CD (click here to read/hear the original skit.) Since the original piece was humorous, so is this one. Also, bagpipe purists out there will immediately smell something fishy, in that I seem to have taken some liberties with the bagpipe drones. To which I will counter that "These are not the Galician drones you are looking for, I use special hi-tech R2D2 drones that can play different notes." Of course, to play this bagpipe, the piper has to take off his/her shoes and play the extra notes with their toes.
Hardware QuickSilver Mac, 4 hands
Software: Music written & performed note-by-note, bend-by-bend, on Harmony Assistant, using Goldbase 2 sampled Galician bagpipe, exported to GB2 & mixed.

Nice touch, those pagbipes
See what puns do to me?? Very fun rendition of Carol of the Bells. I
wish I'd never listened to that Ding Fried Are Done rendition, but your
versions of this carol don't ruin it for me, just makes it playful Thank
you for sharing it! :-)

ROFLMAO!
This was more like Christmas in Mos Eisley. Great stuff- Alien bagpipes!

Joshosh said 1060 days ago
I'm sure
there are some extra special lyrics that go along with this too...

Thanks for the solid laugh to start my day!!

Reminiscant ...
of Every Elementary School Christmas concert I ever attended .... Great stuff Drakonis ... you do know of course that you can also (with the right moves) use a leaf blower to create bagpipe sounds too ! Looking forward to your version of Amazing Grace !

Reminiscant ...
Bwahaha... and now I suddenly hear, buzzing in my brain "Silent night", played
by variable-speed revving chainsaws and weed-wackers!

deja vu, it's the next best thing to being there

great
oh yes the add of percussion. nice nice. i wonder how you managed to play the extra notes with your toes.

haha
This was nice and funny, cool cows you got there!

jgurner said 1059 days ago
It's better....
...to just kill the bagpipes out right rather than toying with them. A quick
twist of the neck, just about the chanter, and they aren't able to let loose
their cries of alarm. :D

What a musician!
And so gracious to regale us all with a full version of this lovely carol. I
know of few people who can play the hi-tech R2D2 with the precision
you've brought to this performance. And your toe technique! Truly
awesome!

DISSONANT
My Bagged piper! Maybe you were half in the bag! Hahahaha! I could see this being the backdrop for a demented skit!

And yes, it made me laugh... How does a mind get to this point...

Wow
Completely similar list! - plus of course, for me, music from the Pythons, and later Weird Al and the Arrogant Worms. Twisted influences - in the best possible way! :o)

Barrell of the Kells
thats an old Gothic trick ..playin the song from backward
but realy works ...lol

peace !

drakonis said 352 days ago
backward and forward
I didn't play the music backward, I just played the title/name backward, instead of "Carol of the Bells". The music is a simple arrangement of it, but to go with the title of "Kells", I thought a bagpipe would be appropriate. :-) It is just me, being silly.

sampled pipes
Eduard, I think this sounds good :) Fun song, and a good example of what can be done with sampling and software these days. Thanks for sharing! Now I guess you'll have to try this with a leaf blower.....

I loved the intro
This just takes the whole thing to a full and new level! You are truly a master!
