Keywords Hillbilly (6)Robots (14)Annihilation (2)Mountain (20)Banjo (29)
Description I really want some advice with this one, trusted friends.... The song is kinda simple.... kinda stupid, but I am serious about it. It's just in the works at this stage, but I needed feedback so I've posted it.

3 Banjo loops and 2 strumming guitar loops plus original synthesizer parts.... These sounds are combined to create a scenario that illustrates the demise of a primitive mountainside village and it's reluctance to accept the unavoidable future world of robot supremacy, global human annihilation, slavery, incest and the ultimate disruption of their hillbilly lives. (no insult intended, Billy Bob)

Enough of that, I'm concerned about the arrangement of the banjo parts - at the very beginning and the very end. Is it dumb? Typical? Perfect? Does it come in too slowly at the end? Does it take too long to fade out? Etc....

Do the synth parts (2 minutes in) annoy or enhance? Does it sound like ELP after amputation?

Are the Horns painful (or somewhere south of that?) Should the second set of horns be eliminated? Repeated?

I really need to hear about the bad parts first and then some of the good parts. Will you help me please?

Tough advice is appreciated, not hated.
Lyrics There are no lyrics. I considered a few "yee-haws" and maybe one "Exterminate the Humans" just for laughs. All ideas are encouraged, welcomed, permitted, etc.... Just notify me if you think you've improved the song.

Hmmm
The first song i've listened to on here! A bit trippy, kinda like it though, quite funny, kind of dark and scary at the same time, confusing, relaxing, disturbing, painful and pleasent. hmm. brain tumour material!

Wow, I'm thrilled to be your fisrt song on MacJams. I guess if you liked it, then
you'll really be impressed when you hear something by someone good. Sorry for
the brain tumor . Thanks for playing! Hope to hear you soon!

I'm a hillbilly myself
and rather enjoyed it, both from a conceptual and listening
perspective.

You were right to nix the "yee-haws"

A couple of the transitions might be a bit abrupt.

Snowdragon,

Thanks for being a hillbilly. Admitting it is the first step towards recovery. My
deep seeded West Virginia roots allow me to confront this topic boldly. I
didn't feel like a few "yee-haws" would add anything to the song, although it
seems like a natural tendency to add them. As a rule of thumb, i usually avoid
natural tendencies.

You are a very talented artist and I respect your opinion. I can thank MacJams
for exposing your music to my ears. If you didn't comment, I wouldn't have
discovered your talent. I nearly swallowed my corn cob pipe when I first heard
your music. Thanks again!

nice work
Nothing in particular jumps out as annoying - if that's what you are worried about. I thought the transitions were smoothly done, with an occasional more abrupt one to keep things interesting. The different passages offer a variety of sonic variations. The only transition that bothered me a little was the last pause at the end, before the final strong notes and the banjo returns - it just didn't seem as smooth or as well-integrated as the other transitions (but this is a small nit). All in all, a pretty nice exercise in music-making.

nice work
Warren, you are right on the money with my biggest concern. That last part
where the pause is just before the horns and the final banjo part was something
I played with for quite some time. I've gone back and forth about the length of
time the silence between those parts should be. If it was enough of a disruption
for you to notice, then my concerns must be valid. I think I should shorten it.

I can't thank you enough for your comments. This is what I need to grow as a
songwriter and I am very appreciative of your help.

Hillybillylicious!
You obviously had a lot of fun doing this which is the main thing - there's
lots of real nice stuff going on reflecting your original (bizarre?) vision! If
this was mine, I'd look at the structure a bit. One thing hillbilly banjo
does well is provide a pulse and drive to bluegrass. Once the banjo cut
out in this piece, the energy level sagged. Changes in tempo and
dynamic are fine but you need to think about how to balance these and
make them work. Personally I would have reintroduced the banjo sooner
and made it last for longer. However, there's good things happening in
your musical imagination - keep it up!

Hillbilly-lishish
Thank for the insightful comments. Maybe I should explore bluegrass a bit further before I commit the rest of my life to the genre.

Thanks for taking the time to listen to my stuff.

Banjos...
.. are never a mistake. They sit in this composition perfectly, bringing the
spacey feel back to earth. The insistent rythm of this piece is wonderful,
kinda scary. The ELP mid section I think could segue in a little more gently
and perhaps it might need a little more of the filtering effect throughout
the segment.
All in all I like this, it's trippy and totally 180 degrees to what I make
myself so that's always good.

Never heard
I can't believe it. You're like Steve Miller meets Lavalamp in Tampa for a grill party at Bob Dorsey's house.

Liked IT a lot.

First Fan!
LOL!

Everyone hated this song so much that 2+ years later you are it's first recorded fan!

I will fix you the biggest, fattest, juiciest steak you ever tasted ANY DAY YOU WANT!! You've read the book and you've seen the movie - You're welcome at the Bob Dorsey house/grill, my friend.

Thanks for the ultimate compliment.

Can You fire a steak for me, too?
I like it. It is fun and though I hate accordion now, because my ex plays one in his German Sauerkraut Band and I guess the banjo reminds me of that kind of sound..., I still like what you've done here. I like Bluegrass so you can "hill your billy" any old time you like. It is a happy recording. Thanks!
