Description A song about seizing the day.
Lyrics You finally get it right
Just when you think you’re wrong
And you might think you’re over it
But it’s only just begun

Talking to a fool
Swaying to the beat
Falling from a breaking cloud
And landing in a heap

And nothing is forbidden but what you want to do

It’s good to be a liar
‘Cos everything is true
It’s better to be higher
If that’s what you want to do

And you might be forsaken but what else can you do?

You’ve been waiting for that dying star
To burn and disappear
But that blessed light still shines
You’ve been hoping for a hurricane
To blow away the years
But the clouds just roll on by

You think you’ve got it right
You might just as well be wrong
You like to think you’re over it
But it’s only just begun

And you can’t be forgiven for what you didn’t do

I’m only calling to hear your voice
I’m only talking to make some noise

very nice song
Well written, patient construction. Good singing. Beautiful melodies and
changes. There may have been some tuning issues with at least one of
the guitars. The mix/recording could use some work on the tone. It's a
little muddy on the vocals. Various tweaks could be made to refine this
further but it's a good song still. Strong ideas in there. Keep it up.

very nice song
Thanks a million for the complimentary words! When you say the guitars need
tuning, do you mean the acoustic guitar? Or the electric? I do know what you
mean about the vocals. I'm using a pretty cheap mic, and I find it hard to get the
sound I want.

Thanks again, man. I appreciate it!

very nice song
I think it was the acoustic that sounded like a string or two was out of tune.

very nice song
Thanks for the feedback. I really hear it now that you say that. By the way, just
been listening to Emmet. Truly awesome song. It means a lot to have someone
of your talent comment on my stuff. Thanks again.

Smooth tune
I think you have a great voice. Very interesting lyrics. Very nice composition. Very good playing. Great harmonies. A well constructed song. Great job!

Smooth tune
Thanks, man! That means a lot. I'm a big fan of Hasta La Vista baby. Glad you
enjoyed the song. Thanks for listening!

Nice build-up
Very well paced song with excellent lyrics and singing. The line
"You%u2019ve been hoping for a hurricane
To blow away the years
But the clouds just roll on by"
was terrific. Very good song and an excellent first post (would be
excellent anytime actually)!

dajama said 1101 days ago
Nice build-up
Thanks for the kind words! The lyrics kind of unfolded over a period of many
months, and took me a long time to get 'right'! I appreciate your taking the time
to listen. Thanks again!

Loved it when the drums come in...
...You've got a nice melodic sense here, and I like your voice...

From where I sit, you have all the strengths...Your voice is good, you
have a nice sense of melody, you can hold pitch, and you keep time
well...You can play rhythm guitar, lead guitar, some keyboard
apparently, and you can program drums...

Then on top of that, you write a good song...

Anything I'd say of a critical nature would be tweaks to the recording
and mix, and in my opinion none of that's as important as writing a
good song and then singing and playing it well...

This sounds very nice in the headphones. I like your lead guitar tone.
The lyrics are good.

I have this feeling you're one of those folks whose songs I'll be
checking out a lot...

Nice job all around.

I really appreciate your taking the time to listen, and comment. And I'm really
glad you liked the song. I know I have some issues with mixing (and recording
for that matter!). Hopefully I'll get better at it. Thanks again for your comments.

a fine construction
The churchlike organ intro nicely sets the somber, contemplative tone. I like the twists and contradictions in your writing as you work through the maze of the lyrics - like "You finally get it right/just when you think you're wrong" and "nothing is forbidden but what you want to do." The song is finely constructed - meaning it's well-thought out and well-executed, with many different parts all contributing to an excellent whole.

Holy moly
Hi dajama,

Well, I'd have to agree about some comments about the mix, which could be improved (the vocals are very upfront and the drums only just there), but this is a real grower - I really like the song build-up and the harmonies (and the solo - nice guitar sound), and as warren commented, the church organ really suits the mood of the song.
Great job!

Too late?
Is it too late to thank you Echoroom and Warren for your kind words? I never realized that I had forgotten to respond to your comments, until I stopped by here to respond to a newer comment. Bad form, indeed. I truly appreciate you guys taking the time to stop by and comment. Many belated thanks to both of you!

well done
has a nice PF feel to it... good work!

dajama said 576 days ago
Thanks
for the compliment, especially if by PF, you mean Pink Floyd! High praise indeed. Glad you liked it. Peace.

I agree . . .
with Warren Smith's comment about the construction of the song and the way your instruments build toward the chorus and at the end.

Another well produced song. Good lyrics and performance as well.

Many thanks
for stopping by and commenting. It's a great compliment when someone takes the time to go back and listen! I apppreciate your comments. Cheers. Peace.

Superb song!

I'm flattered
Another song I'm hoping to revisit soon. I've never really been happy with the recording, and I hope to get back to it someday soon. Thanks for your kind words. Cheers.Peace.

I think
I must have overlooked this one. Really good song - love the arrangement. Interesting listening to this after 'Astray' - shows how your production skills have developed. I think the sound on this one could be improved with the experience you've gained - and worth it.

Hi Peter
Thanks for going back and checking this one out - the first song I posted here, and it sounds like it. Every now and then, between new songs, I go back to older stuff like this and start monkeying around with it, but really big parts need to be re-recorded and redone if I'm to do it justice. I like the song, though, and I hope to get to it one day. Thanks again for taking the time. I appreciate it. Peace.

I think the guitar fit...
I can hear the out of tune string but it fits the song well! Adds a bit of dissonance that somehow adds to the song.

My only comment is you have a killer strong full voice... The echo took a way from that wonderful voice in my opinion.

Overall I really enjoyed it!

dajama said 251 days ago
Thanks, Mark
I'm delighted you've gone back to check out this oldie. To be honest, it's really a song that needs to be reworked, and I intend to do it someday. However, I do like it, and I'm glad you liked it too. I appreciate your taking the time to go back and listen. Cheers. Peace.

What an excellent story you tell David
This is a beautifully crafted song my friend with a soft melancholy backdrop. Love the overall character of this, it's really quite outstanding my friend.

thank you for sharing it.

Hi Ed
Many thanks for going back through the archives to find this one! It's an oldie, and I'll get around to redoing it someday! Glad you liked the song and the story it tells. It's certainly not a happy song, but I hope it's not depressing! Loved reading your blog, by the way - very interesting and quite moving. Thanks again, my friend. I appreciate it. Cheers. Peace.

Hitting you first
From time to time, I like to hit my favorites' first.

Like the structure and the whole feel of this. Have you ever thought about going back to it? It's very, very nice. Do you know that?

Dave

dajama said 205 days ago
Thanks so much
for going all the way back to this. Yeah, I'm all about going back to this and polishing it up. Unlike some of my other stuff that I go back and listen to and wince, this one still sounds like it has something, to my ears. One day...Thanks for checking it out. Glad you liked it. Cheers. Peace.
