Keywords Stevel (38)jiguma (15)katrina (8)political (35)guitar (911)harmony vocal (1)
Description A remix of the earlier version - mainly to get rid of some embarassing vocal glitches on the harmonies. I wanted to get a bit more grit into it, so asked Stevel if he'd like to do a guitar solo. The guitar part has been modified quite a bit from Steve's original file he sent - hope you like it Steve!!
Lyrics Danger Signs
© 9/9/2005 Neil Porter

Woke up early morning
Dreams messing with my head
Looking out the window
Sky is red
Took it as a warning
Stayed at home instead
Tempted to head straight
Back to my bed

It’s been this way before
Don’t need it any more

Been turning off the media
They’ve been telling us lies
They say “they’re gonna getcha”
Channel 10 have seen the danger signs

Hit me without warning
Can’t believe I’ve read
Heartless wind Katrina
Eyes are red
Mississippi mourning
Mississippi dread
They’re waiting for redemption
Eyes are red

We’ve seen it all before
So near our northern shore

They’re dying in America
A nation cries
Living out a nightmare
How come George has missed the danger signs?

It’s been a long long day
In such a bad bad way
I don’t know what to say
It’s been a long long day
In such a bad bad way
I don’t know what to say

INSTR (1)

We’ve seen it all before
So near our northern shore

I’ve been watching the media
I’m seeing barefaced lies
They’re surely gonna getcha
You can run but you can’t hide

It’s been a long long day
In such a bad bad way
I don’t know what to say
It’s been a long long day
In such a bad bad way
I don’t know what to say

Never ending story
Filling me with dread
Helicopter moments
Fill my head
Poison in the water
Angry words are said
Can’t believe this story
Eyes are red

They’re mostly black and poor
What are they waiting for?

There’s murder in the stadium
A baby cries
Rooftop snipers
Surely these are the danger signs

It’s been a long long day
In such a bad bad way
I don’t know what to say
It’s been a long long day
In such a bad bad way
I don’t know what to say

We’ve played this game before
What are we fighting for?

They’re dying in America
A nation cries
Living out a nightmare
How come George has missed the danger signs?

I could recognize you anywhere:)
You have developed a certain sound that I could spot anywhere:)
I think it has to do with the way you have the guitars rolling through the songs. Together with your characteristic vocal harmonies you have your own cool style:)

This song is one of the best I've heard from you. Very tight and clever arranged and performed.

D/L and fav'ed!

A brilliant track
Cool driving, jangling sound. A stellar, silky production really lifts this
song.

Top class collab you guys. That Strat's travelling far and wide at the
moment - I can't keep up.

This track sounds great Neil...I really do like the guitar rhythms you set
up here, it was really enjoyable to play to. My strat bits sound pretty
'rock' now - nice one!

Hi Steve, I'd hoped you'd be happy with the fairly major sound change on your Strat! I was really happy with your soloing, and glad to be able to add it to the song. Any time you need some bass work on one of yours, let me know!

Thanks for the solo - it really added something! Neil

Simon and Garfunkel whisper feel
There was a police song that had a music feel like this but can' t
remember but this is of course is original. Then there is a Simon and
Garfunkel whisper-singing which I think is totally cool. Ya, like was said
the chorus guitar rythum is very radio friendly and the list goes on. This is
my fav of yours or close to it.

Well done

Swaying
to the danger. I agree with thoddi that you have your own sound, and it sounds great. Once again the writing is awesome, and the production is just right. Steve's leads fit very nicely.

Awesome
It's everything that was great about the origonal and then some. You've
really managed to punch this one up a notch. The mix is very full and
rich. Very well done vocals harmonies throughout. Stevel's guitar works in
nicely. Excellent production work on this one Neil!

No compaints
about the first one... but the guitar does add a bunch to this version. In
my opinion this is a very well crafted and performed song. Excellent job
on the do-over!

I don't recall another hand being dealt
Certainly, I 'm willing to let you play this one and I should just remember, that there's no losing w/ you, Neil...

Usually, I will have a mental note, that a tune might benefit from the efforts towards smoothing the edges a bit. But here, Neil, you've taken the egdges and you've lilquified them... Very nice indeed.

I got a chance to pay more attention to the content on this one and upon having my lillte re-listen, I noticed how poetic your writing is. There was a paticular line that I heard, and then went back to read it to make sure that it was as I thought, and sure enough, it was...It was so poetic, that it was difficult to accept that it was so. And yes, I was touched... And yes, it made me tear up a bit.

Nice rework and I'm dig'n the addition of Stevel solo too, That was definitely 'in the pocket'...

Thanks Neil, this was a nice revisit.

cool contours
As people have said, "it's that sound". Very nice groove. Even though
this has a nice forward movement and expert instrumentation and
percussion, the vocals don't project the message as well as they
should. They are too much enfolded in the music. They need to come
forward. Just a matter of the mix, I think. Maybe double the lead vox
track.
