Description A song about parental love, and the anticipation of a visit. This is for our beautiful daughter Mardi who lives 6 hours away in Sydney.

Musically, its laid back guitars, bass, organ and drums - with a few harmonies for good measure!
Lyrics Coastal Daze
© Neil Porter 10/10/2005

It’s just another day
In just another coastal town
It could be anywhere
But we’ve got you coming ‘round

We’ll walk down to the River Mouth
Where sapphire turns to turquoise
On the edges of the bay
We’ve got you coming over
It’s just another coastal day

The endless sets roll in
A moby dances in the bay
And Sydney’s far from here
On just another coastal day

We got your news today (oh boy!)
We heard you buzzing on the Sydney line
Next June’s not far away
It’s as if you’d been here yesterday
And we know you’re doing fine
And we’ll take you to the water’s edge
And we’ll swim just like your younger days
Like we did when you lived here
And you’ll dive under the waves
And disappear

Walk around the cliff-top trail
Stop at lookouts on the way
Enjoy you being here
On yet another coastal day

We’ll walk down to the River Mouth
Where sapphire turns to turquoise
On the edges of the bay
We’ve got you coming over
It’s just another coastal day

INSTRUMENTAL

We’ll take the highway south
Head down the Teararse through the trees
There’s no-one else about
Forever empty sand and sea

And we’ll take you to the water’s edge
And we’ll swim just like your younger days
Like we did when you lived here
And you’ll dive under the waves
And disappear
You surface on the other side
Laughing as you flick your hair
Wipe water from your eyes
And you say how good it feels
To be alive

Like that mic wiith the acoustic guitar
Love that stero feeling, great engineering their with mic-ing.
Nice sings.
Cool, I can hear an english ancient- cool.
Nice tune, like how you laid back festive type tunes.

Nice easy going lead. Again terrific mic-ing to get that Island acoustical
feel.

Like that mic wiith the acoustic guitar
Thanks Bill, I take it as quite a compliment your comment about the sound of
the acoustic tracks - its something I've been finding difficult to get right since
I started with GB. Always appreciate you dropping by and listening, Neil.

Ejh said 1144 days ago
As I've grown older...
...I have grown to appreciate more and more and more when people,
and I'll even say especially men, write about what they love and
cherish, especially their wives and kids...

This song has a lot of Bruce Cockburn in its feel, which in my book is
another plus...

I continue to appreciate and enjoy the hallmarks of the 'jiguma sound':
a solid and melodic bassline pulse, multi-vocals, and the sparkling
acoustic guitar that manages to be both rhythmic and melodic, now
spread left and right for your musical enjoyment... The lead playing is
really nice...

What I DON'T like is that the keyboard/B3 sound, so lightly blended
into the mix, sounds like my telephone... I keep taking off the
headphones, thinking I've got an incoming call... And I don't WANT to
take off the headphones...

Another good one...

Ed

jiguma said 1144 days ago
As I've grown older...
Thanks Ed - the B3 level was a translation glitch from aif to mp3 - I'll put up
a new version with it upped in the mix. Glad you liked the rest of it!! Neil

jiguma said 1144 days ago
As I've grown older...
I meant of course from GB to iTunes.

Ejh said 1144 days ago
As I've grown older...
Neil, you got that I said that HUMOROUSLY, right?

I'm serious in that it really does sound like my phone, and I really did make that
mistake...twice... but I'm not suggesting that you change ANYTHING 'cause of
my weird phone or ears or perceptions....

Ed

jiguma said 1143 days ago
As I've grown older...
Thanks for the clarification Ed - I had actually planned for the B3 to be bigger in the mix, but on reflection, maybe I like it as it is. Lets put this down to an accent problem : )

Thank you
Thank you for another of these just wonderful jiguma-songs! Your music
has it's own sound, it own soul, and a weather I am getting crazy to be
able to experience. Long ago I went to spend the winter in California
because I heard something in the music from there. And I was right, I
loved Berkely and San Fransico. If you keep on givin out this
10-10-10-10-music, the next big trip for me will defenitely be heading
against Australia! If I dont listen your music for a couple of days a row I
am getting abstinence.

jiguma said 1144 days ago
Thank you
Cheers Curry, glad you liked it. I'm just finding that writing about my local
area is really good for me - it makes me realise how special it is! We're
heading into summer now, and looking forward to the long days on the
beach. Its really good to hear that the images and sound resonate for you.
Thanks for the comment, Neil.

Sweet Song
Like the quiet matter of fact way this song just moves along. A pleasant
ode to rememberance, family and a place that the heart calls home!

Sweet Song
Came back for more listens and just have to say it just gets better and better
the more I listen. The guitars are so clear and distincitve, the groove so
mellow, the lyrics so sweet . . . ah, if you could bottle this stuff and sell it you
would be a millionaire! Come to think of it, if the music buying public had any
taste you would be a millionaire! Of course then you wouldn't be mellow and
content so it is probably just as well.

jgurner said 1144 days ago
This just oozes...
...good feelings. Beautiful breezy sounds just flow from your guitars and
vocals. This is such a sweet sentimental song. You must be an awesome
dad.

jiguma said 1144 days ago
This just oozes...
Thanks for the comment Joseph - being a good dad is really important to me,
so this is one of my favourite MJ comments so far. Glad you liked the song -
this one is a more complicated chord progression than I usually do, but the
simplicity of the melody is a nice counter. Thanks, Neil.

Makes me yearn for the sea ...
What an evocative image you create with your lyrics ... and the song is
performed with such sincerity and honesty. Lovely guitar sound and
chilled out rhythm, gently undulating like the sea. All the instruments
stand out strongly in their own right and yet blend together into a
cohesive whole. A very nice spirit-lifting song, beautifully done.

jiguma said 1144 days ago
Makes me yearn for the sea ...
Thanks Rebsie, I'm really getting into the lyric thing. I've just found that the
easiest things to write about are things you know well or have experienced
deeply (makes sense I guess). The chilled rhythm is something I love - allows
freedom on all the instruments, and that style of bass is such a treat to play.
Cheers to Cheltenham! Thanks, Neil.

stevel said 1144 days ago
Another really nice song
As Ejh mentioned, there is a real 'Jiguma' trademark sound that you
have...mellow yet funky. I think you really blend guitar tracks so
well..which is not easy as I know only too well! It sounds seamless on
this song.
The sound of the track is very seductive and calming. And
enjoyable of course. Nice one!
Steve

jiguma said 1144 days ago
Another really nice song
Cheers Steve - I've discovered that the higher the level of the initial recording,
the easier it is to get a good mix. Thanks for listening, appreciate your visit.
Speaking of blending guitar tracks, the Danger Signs are nearly ready. Neil

You upped the anti
I knew that you would, given your pattern of always having a good
playing hand... This one hit dead center, that very 'sweet spot'

I LOVED this one! I thought that you had arrive enough, w/ the first
tune of your's that I'd heard, but you just keep showing up at a new
place, one that's always better than the last. Good for you, good for
us...

The vocals are more refined and as well, the voice of your g'tar, it is
becoming more effortlessly, well pronounced. I especially liked the
perc work on this one. It helped to state that ease of existance that's
often found in the air of coastal towns.

Man I'm gone for a weekend and almost miss the party here... Luckly
for me, it seems that there's still a good time to be had...

I'm thinking that your daughter, family and friends, they are all lucky
people to have you in their lives. And as well, I am sure that they are all
special to. This was a nice dedication of efforts.

Well, you know I'm in... And of course, I'd like to take another card
please...

Congradulations on having put such a nice piece together, Neil.

Dion

P.S. This one was the deepest, of cool...

Thanks Dion, I've been looking forward to your comments since posting -
they are always a joy to read! Have just started on a new one - hope it lives
up to expectations. Thanks for the support and the good natured comments
on the songs - I'm becoming quite obsessed with MJ (in the best of ways), in
no small part as a result of the fantastic feedback and support of people like
yourself.
Looking forward to your next post/hand!
Cheers, Neil

Blown Away
LouISE, Man - What A Song.

Full of Color and Harmony. That Strong supporting Bass, Snap
counterpoint Kit and percussion, and the Guitars - the decending break
down voicings, sweet and full, (Yet still half breaking my heart). And that
"B3" sounding organ - What Restraint!

Very Strong and your inimitable graceful understatement "..how good it
feels to be alive". Indeed. The love and loss; the changes.

Spectacular.

jiguma said 1141 days ago
Blown Away
Thanks for the very kind comments rt. This is certainly my favourite song (of
mine that is) so far in my brief existence as "singer-songwriter", and I just
loved how it fell together, both musically and lyrically. I really appreciate
your visit. Cheers, Neil

Jim Bouchard said 1142 days ago
wow!
I don't get enough time to check out everyone's music here! this is really quite excellent. I do like the Bruck Cockburn sort of picking and there's areally nice laid back groove, and then there's that sort of vocal line that reminds me of petals falling of a flower, sort of gently dropping off from time to time.

It's a really great expression of a parental love, with that sort of nostalgia for her younger days lended with feelings pride in where her life is headed, and just the appreciation of little moments of time. That last verse is pretty perfect!

jiguma said 1141 days ago
wow!
Thanks Jim! Bruce Cockburn is one of my favourite writers/performers, so I'm
really pleased that he's mentioned here - I really admire the way he takes
often simple ideas and situations and expands them into a full lyric by
looking at the intricacies of events, relationships and objects. His guitar style
is not something I've consciously tried to emulate, its just what I've always
done on my trusty 12 string over my many years of musical "hibernation".
Glad you dropped by - your comments are especially well received , I really
love your recent posts. Cheers,
Neil

Hey Neil, this is another nice tune with a mellow feel
and great vocals and great lyrics. Do do have a very
nice guitar sound going on here, the tweaking paid off :)
The percussion is sweet as honey, you really have that
60s vibe going on Sir. Great mix and performance.
Now Neil, I think it is time for your next song to be
a totally different style, something unexpected, you have
the skills.... surprise me :)

Cheers

great acoustic track
Hi there,
The song has a nice little warm feeling to it. Guitar has an excellent presence and hold on the piece. I thought the song could of had a female voice. Not my place to say I will admit though. I like the idea of the lyrics, something different. Well done.

jiguma said 1139 days ago

Thanks for the comment Michael,
I'd not thought of a female lead on this, but its an interesting idea for sure. Always good to hear from someone new. Cheers,
