Description A laid-back groove-based funk instrumental, featuring a sampled acoustic guitar solo, and some bari sax and clav interplay. Drums are loops, as is rhythm guitar. The rest is hand played via keyboard. My maiden voyage with GB. It just felt nice.

I got lucky
...But I'm not sure how I could blindly pick one from the 'rate me' pile
and I got lucky enough to get this... This is a great funkly little jig! I
love it.

I love that fact that It has this smooth, playful 'a not to serious groove
because you don't gotta try hard' little tude about it.

Very sweet play'n here. Way lovin it!

Nice job Futzpucker!

Thanks, Dion. This was a fun song to work on, and is quite different from my
usual posts here. Glad you liked it.

I've heard a lot of music here at MJ
I've heard a lot of music hera at mj. But Futz you are truly one of my very
favorite artists here at Mj! I guess one of the main reasons is I love well
done good laid-back music. To me if it's done right it is something you
can be very proud of because of it's wholesome, uplifing value. When I
hear you music I really feel you have fit the bill in producing such quality!

To me what you do is soothing, your percussions are very tasty and not
overpowering. You are truly one of the un-sung hero's here at MJ.

Just hoping you get sung more often here in everyway possible!

To hear these comments from a member of this community that is as highly
respected as you, Bill... What a treat. I'm so glad my music is to your liking, as
yours is to mine.

What you've written to me here and on other songs' pages has meant a great
deal to me, Bill. Thank you very much.

Headphones only
I like the way the "Rhodes" sound has that panning. Everything seems
to work together here. Great guitar performance. The change-up in the
drums is a nice addition. I particularly like the processed guitar/clav/
sax section, with a whisper of guitar... held together by that Rhodes.
Cool!

said 1155 days ago
One more thing
Even though some of it is loops, your arrangement and interplay work well.

---
If you've enjoyed it half as much as I, then I must have enjoyed it twice as much as you!

futzpucker said 1149 days ago
One more thing
I really enjoy that auto-panning feature as well. It's not uncommon to use it on
Rhodes sounds and Whirlizer sounds. I have used it on other sounds as well
from time to time, and it can be very effective, if used judiciously.

Thank you for taking a close listen, as you obviously did. I very much appreciate
that. Your comments were very generous, and coming from a highly regarded,
venerable member of this community, their impact was great.

futz- the laid back...
funkmeister. What a treat to find all three of these songs
this morning. All three will be downloaded when I get home
and sent straight to my mellow mood playlist. Slick is one of
my very favorites... there is a wink and a smile that seems
woven into the whole song which is infectious. Goooood!

Jack, I'm so pleased you feel that the song contains "a wink and a smile..." It's
great that it hit you that way.

Thanks for your continued generosity to me with your comments. I appreciate
the way you listen to my music.

Hey Mister Futz,

this one has that nice and mellow groove that is really
diggable. Nicely put together and mixed well.
Good one.

Cheers

Mr. Katchoolik,

You being a killer guitar player, I do appreciate the fact that you can listen to a
song with a "guitar" played on a keyboard, and still leave nice comments. Thank
you, and thanks for listening.

Man, has this been a good week on MJ, I just punched this up for the
name and in walks this "Dude" of a piece.

Beats me where you were using loops, so, to me they weren't. Just a
totally cool track from the Get Go. Sax works great and the piano is
sweet. Great structure and progress - Struttin'.

Mr. Coop, thank you for stopping by here.

"This 'Dude' of a piece." I love that. Very cool to hear. What you said here is
greatly appreciated. It sure was a fun piece to put together. Hearing that it was
enjoyed, well, that's great. Thanks.

Thanks so much, Scotty. Coming from a pro like yourself, that means a lot to
me.

I'm glad you came out of Katrina relatively unscathed. Welcome back.

thanks for sharing this groovy little number.
Some Steely Dan vocals would go nicely I think.

It does feel nice
Being a fan of Steely Dan, this is an intriguing idea. Donald Fagen singing on
Slick McCool... That would be cool in the very far extreme.

I appreciate your listening and commenting. Thanks, Mr. Themasses.

Added this to favorites straight away. What a sweet, somehow cheeky
piece. Brings a smile to my face. Nice job.

I like this being called "sweet" and "cheeky" in the same sentence. It makes it
sound as if the song were multi-dimensional.

Thanks, David. I'm very glad you like it, and I'm honored to be on your favorites
list.

Welcome to MacJams. It's great to have you here.

Cool Vibe
It was a bit dizzying when you were spinning sounds around the field. I thought that was overdone as the vibe was cool already without it. I liked it the best when the sax came to play but, hey, who wouldn't! All in all, it's slick mccool alright.

futzpucker said 962 days ago
Cool Vibe
Thanks for listening, Alan.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean about the "spinning sounds around the
field." Maybe you're referring to the sax and the clav being panned opposite
each other in the spectrum, or maybe the fact the the electric piano sound is
auto-panned (some people like that, as per Alimar's mention above, and some
might not).

In any case, I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed the vibe, and I'm very pleased to
have you comment on a song of mine. Thanks.

Thank you, Sister Anne
I'm very pleased, and quite surprised, you found this song; it was posted quite a while ago...

"So laid back it's almost horizontal." What a great line. I'm glad you like this song. I'm even more glad you have come to MacJams, as your music is exceptional, and all over my iPod.

Thanks, Anne.

I had discovered this sooner! Reminds me of Steely Dan, or George Benson.

Unworthy of the comparison
Wow, Mr. Stooey... Steely Dan, George Benson... I'm certainly not in their league, but I appreciate your mentioning them here. Thanks for finding this song, and for leaving this comment.

If I had done
any one of these pieces of music Patrick... I'd be mighty pleased with myself... I always end up thinking that you must have some kind of live history behind you... this refined, seasoned, effortless excellence doesn't just happen overnight

futzpucker said 266 days ago

Scott, you have every reason to be pleased about any of the songs you've submitted here. They are all excellent, heartfelt gems. Your talent is enormous. Thank you for your nice words here.

Nice Groove
Very nice groove... it must have felt nice to put this piece together, as you said. Nice instrumental dialogs starting around 1:48. Very inspiring... think I'm gonna try to start something from a loop.. nut sure i have the skills... great groove! Rgds!

futzpucker said 265 days ago
Welcome to MacJams, Mr. Massa
I'm quite sure you have the skills to pull some rhythm loops together, like I did here. This song was strictly for fun, and it worked for me in that regard. I'm confident you could do something like it, if you wanted to. Whether or not you decide to do so, please accept my thanks for listening to this song and leaving a comment.

I picture a three piece band
made up of of seasoned musicians who just quietly meandered into the corner, picked up their instruments, smiled at each other and began playing. Slowly, people from the street wandered in, sat down and began rocking their heads to the beat. I can't tell the difference between synthesized instruments and live playing when it is done the way you do it,... really well. Thanks.
