Great production! Ed, when you mentioned you were working on a song with Curry, I think I congratulated you on your taste - the proof of this pudding is certainly in the eating! Lovely song Ed, and well sung. Curry, your playing on this is up to your usual standard, but I am especially impressed by the production. These are some of the cleanest multiple guitar sounds I think I've heard on an MJ production. Just realised the potential mixed metaphor here leading up to a curry pudding - hmmmmmm! Anyway, congratulations on the result - a fine piece of acoustic folk music. Neil |

Great production! Wow... Curry...pudding... I'm trying to wrap my head around that one... BUT I CAN'T 'CAUSE I HAVE THIS GUITAR'S PEGHEAD IN MY CRANIUM! I'm getting to like it, though... it's starting to feel kind of normal... Thanks, jiguma! Ed |

Sharing loneliness Great line: "There are some kinds of lonely only lonely cures." Perfect line to build a song around. Excellent guitar work, simple yet full, always right on, so nice. Great folk track. And there is something about sharing loneliness in music that burrows deep and widens life, somehow. Smiling from the deep alone knowing others know. |

WUMB-ready Send this right off to our favorite Boston folk radio station! ... Instant Classic! Everyone is right on the mark here, so it's hard to say anything without repeating things. This is a great collaboration and Curry did a great job adding in his part and bringing it all together. The song reminds me of the best of Boston Folk songwriting, up there with Dean Stevens or Catie Curtis, for example. Love it! Minor quibble: it doesn't really rock, so I would classify it purely Folk. |

WUMB-ready On the OTHER hand... I've actually played live on WUMB... years ago...in fact, I think I did 'Marigold'... my old boss Rick Cyge and I actually were on an old WUMB fundraising recording back when Tom Callahan and Stephen Bracciotti were on the air... And I USED to know Dean Stevens... he sometimes came to the songwriting group that my old partner Phyllis and I were members/cofounders of... I spent what felt like a year of my life trying to sell him a guitar before he went and bought his Lowden... I was introduced to Catie, too, a couple of times... And curiously, Wheatstone Bridge was on the "Best of Boston" LP from Fast Folk Musical magazine....I think Dean was on that too, along with other Bostonian types... I know what you mean about the folk rock label being applied to things that don't involve drums and bass, but I think I spent too much time around folkie purists, too, so nowadays I tend to think of "folk" as being "traditional music performed on traditional instruments in traditional ways". In any case, a lot of people approach that category that way. And I dislike the "adult contemporary" sorts of categories. I figure if early Jackson Browne and Steve Forbert, or songs like "Mr. Tambourine Man" or "Helplessly Hoping", can be considered to be "folk rock", then I'm not too out of place... I tend to think of all these categories as approximations, anyway, and I guess I just LIKE this one... I'm glad that you enjoyed the song and the performance, Jim; your comment got a very pleasant little nostalgia thing going for me... Thanks, Ed |

They say that... Jack, I always love and appreciate your comments. An MA in Counseling Psychology is just what I have... And you are right about therapists... I was just reflecting on that this week... I sometimes find myself saying something in a session that is just exactly what I need to hear myself... Pretty often, actually... And I do think of this as a hopeful song... It's that for me, anyway... I'm always touched when you like one of my songs, Jack... Your 'babble' always has great heart... Thanks, Ed |

Great contribution Everything is so tight in this song, the guitar, the voice... Everything in this reminds me of early Leonard Cohen which is not a bad thing at all, keeping in mind you do it in a very personal way. The lyrics are also great. Thank you. M |

Alone and Lonely Excellent lyrics, Ed. Very thoughtful and poetic. I know exactly what you mean about not fighting it, just seeing it through. Very touching. Your voice is so full and clear; wonderful delivery. The guitars form such a gentle, comforting bed. Played and mixed so very well. It sounds like you were both playing in the same place rather than remotely. Beautiful. It would be nice to maybe hear a cello filling in the bottom, but that'd just be a bonus. Great work, guys. Really. Ed, you write some of my favorite lyrics here. |

What more can be said This is a great piece and very well executed. Had me fooled with the pic. I was beginning to think Cori was taking a tour around the US and helping us Americans out. Great job coming from two of my favorite MacJam heroes. |

Where The Waters Run Together The acoustic guitars sound like a bright mountain stream, sparkling in the sunlight as they cascade down. The vocal sounds like a mighty river that flows with power and strength which comes from observing all the nuances of life along the length and breadth of it's journey. When they come together it is fun and magical. Two streams from different places that complement each other as they merge as one. |

Good Mix... I'm fairly new to the scene of Macjams, and have scene some really good talent and some horrible attempts at "music". All power to those in the middle, learning as they go, and improving as they go... I think this piece is something for all to listen to and learn from. It is a great mix with a simple melody and words that people can relate to. I feel that is the key to making music: relating to people. Whether you do it with music, words, or a blend of both. Music that is catchy lasts as long as it takes to listen to it. Music that relates embeds itself in the soul and lasts forever.... Good on ya!!! Aaron David... |

The Kind of Lonely You know you're having a good day when swirls of acoustic guitar and soulful lyrics come out of your computer speakers first thing, even before the last dregs of coffee are gone. The beautiful part of this production is that you really can't tell anybody did anything except love it byte by byte until perfect. The guitars blend beautifully, and the instrumental break is like caramel sauce, which makes anything it touches, better. Too bad about the headstock on Curry's guitar, though. Nice of him to cut it off so you can see Ed's face. Nice work, guys. |

song for reminiscing A folksy song with a sentimental feel to it. Excellent guitar playing. A heart-tugging song to listen to while on a bus ride to a homecoming or holiday. The voice is great but sounds a little loud and raw. Won't hurt to set the vocal volume a little lower and put a tiny bit of reverb to make the vocals sound a little more polished and professional. Other than that minor flaw, this song is a major musical creation! |

Beautiful sound and I love that chorus tag, "This is the kind of lonely/Only lonely cures". A nice insight, and a great germ for a song. The lyric needs some tweaks. The first 8 lines lay it all out. After that, ask yourself, line by line, "does this line says adds something to the song or merely say what I've already said?". I think you may find you need less than you have. |

Beautiful guys My only comment would be that it'd be nice to have some harmonies on the verses with 'only lonely cures' to make them stand out a bit more from the verses and to truly break our hearts. Otherwise - loving it. Well done. |

Wow! This is beautiful Thank goodness for this song! Nowadays, it seems like every song about being lonely is sung by a whiny kid, who's always like, "Oh, nobody loves me." I really like how this is a song that reflects on loneliness, but doesn't resort to helplessness. It says "I feel alone, and that's what I need to feel right now." Thanks! The guitars in this song are beautiful! Keep up the amazing work! |

And so its week is passed And so the week of fame for The Kind Of Lonely is passed... I "saw" when it happened. I was listening to Katchoolics new post and it was still on the lists. I commented his tune, refreshed the screen and it was no more on the lists... It has been a great week and a just great collaboration ... Thanks a lot Ed! I feel privileged to be your friend! |

I keep coming back to this... I felt like telling you that i keep coming back to this song.. When i am the only teacher left in my office in late afternoons, i usually listen to this song while finishing up my work for the day.. It is such a nice song. It is very soothing for a tired head at the end of a long day! Keep up the good work Ed! |

Hey Ed,
very nice sounding and wonderful folk song.
Great guitar sound and the vocals are sweet and relaxing.
This goes right to number one in my Katchoolik Folk Charts.
Ed and Curry, this is great stuff.
