Description It's been 3 months since my first "release" on MacJams and I'm hiding away in my room and not submiting anything onto MacJams because I think it's got to be a big hit.

Well, I'm sick of waiting for a big hit. I know I'm being ridiculous. So here's an instrumental piece I did a while back that's not polished but what the hell...

This piece is about me and my space ship on a lonely intergalactic trip of discovery.

Psychedelic
I love the extended, weightless section in the middle.
Gorgeous. That could have gone on forever for me. Some
of the loops used on the front and back ends have a
familiar feel to them. Have to watch that on this site where
everyone has heard all the loops.

Very enjoyable piece, Simon. Again, I especially loved that
flowing middle part.

8-9-8-8

p.s. I would consider putting this in Ambient Electronica
or New Age. "Other" is a death category. No one knows
what it is, including me?

Shimky said 1183 days ago
Listen to: Roundup the World by atwood1956!!
Right, "Ambient Electronica" it is, Tom!

:O)

The final frontier....
No fair hiding!!
I'm glad you submitted this!
It's outta this word! ;)
I could hear adding some vocals to it, or even some guitar grooving along with it.

Nice work on this :)

i could see this as a 12 inch single

Well, I wish you were a famous record producer! :O)

Wonderful surround of...
sound that does communicate booking through
space passing planets and stars as your ship
skips along thru galaxies. Pulsating, gravity
powered engines drone on. And then.... the
destination. As the ambient music begins a
pristine world of colors unlike any on earth
breaks into view. The ship glides through the
atmosphere... and the sights and music go on
and on. All too quickly it is time to leave and the
steady sound of the the engines kick in... off to
another world out somewhere out there.

just for fun....

Jack

Nice work! You make me want to break out my midi
keyboard again and try some stuff. I hope you'll keep up
the good work, and keep crankin' stuff out!

drakonis said 1183 days ago
nice
Good buildup... didn't care for the bass boo-wa-wooo-
wa-woo before the quiet break much, seemed out of place
(weird amoeboid creature floating by?) but the rest of it
was great. Good driving melody in the last half, but not
sure if I'd classify this as AMBIENT electronica, the driving
beat seemed too up-front for ambient in my brain, but I'm
not great at categorizing, so I leave it to others to suggest
a good spot... this is better than most for it. So don't just
sit on those nice gems, polish them up and post them,
they're cool!

Drakonis

Groovy trip
You really shouldn't be so hard on yourself ... do a
few more of these and post them! Nice sounds, well
put together ... keep 'em coming!

Slick Shimky
I really enjoyed this. Glad you didn't keep waiting to post it.

So...do we have to wait 3 more months for the next one?

Shimky said 1183 days ago

No!!! I've promised myself to lessen my expectations. After all, this is
supposed to be fun, right!

Very cool; very soundtrack-ish. Reminds me a lot of the
music from the old game Descent.
Very cool beats and great production! Really dug the
ambient-y middle part.
Great job!

wicked song! would go perfect with a snowboard video! I see
someone flying down the side of a mountain listening to this!

av01der said 1183 days ago
Not too shabby!
This is some solid loop arrangement! I once tried making
a song with that first ambient atmospheric melody loop,
and it wasn't nearly as good as this.

This song starts out with a nice build. Everything fits
together well, until...the break in the middle. It doesn't
seem to mesh well with the rest of what you have. Then
again, I'm partially biased because I use that loop in one
of my songs! :p But bias aside, I think you might be able
to ditch that break altogether, or at least try using a
different loop for it.

I'd be very interested to hear any of your future
endeavors. And hey, if you're interested in seeing how I
used that one loop myself, check out my song "Indigo
Regret".

Troy said 1183 days ago
That middle . . .
Yeah, I totally dig that middle section as well. Lots of
atmosphere. The song's best when it's quiet and not hiding
behind all the relentless drums.

The rest is pretty standard electronica and doesn't really float
my boat. Dancing robot music lacking melodic richness and
diversity.

Repetitive? You bet, but that is the genre, I suppose.

Regardless, NEVER be afraid to post stuff! Ever.

selters said 1183 days ago
i guess this could have freaked me out..
in certain situations.....i like that scratcing sound that comes in in the middle. Very nice buildup. I think it gets less interesting towards the end, but keep in my mind that i usually dont listen to this type music, so it is probably just me beeing studid. Well done, I think i should listen to more music like this!

food for imagination
Very enjoyable piece! The panning is excellent.

Epileptic Gibbon said 1183 days ago
I have to disagree with atwood1956…
… but I agree with Drakonis: ambient electronica it
isn't really, well maybe in places, but I'd say it was
too dancey for that genre. I like it a lot and think it's
got style and a certain amount of originality for what
is a potentially overdone genre and given that it's got
some loops in it. I like your space ship and I look
forward to travelling in it again soon. Sorted!

SlimGirlFat said 1183 days ago
OOoh
wondered where you got to!!! :)
Nice choice of synths and fx here.
I think you have used a lot of great sounds in here and
have followed a good form in the arrangement, I like the
flow and blending of the track overall and the production
is not bad.
a few sounds are panned too much to the left eg: the perc
and pad synth about midway, but overall levels are nice
and balanced.
cool first upload
look forward to hearing more

Interesting what you say about the panning - I'll have a good listen to see
what you mean. Thanks for the comments. :O)

laid back
I like this. Perfect for my drowsy late night listening. It's laid
back but has a lot going on. Interesting changes. Part of the
melody/sound reminds me of something but I don't know
what it is. It just puts me in a dreamy mood. Nice job
putting this together.

like the mellow groove of this...

i recognized some loops, but they weren't out of place at all
- probably better used than when i used them. :)

Out of this world!
This wouldn't be out of place on a Chemical's CD - hope you
don't stay lonely in your spaceship for long!

Shimky said 1182 days ago
Out of this world!
Oh, it's okay - the spaceship contains a huge dome-shaped garden in which
robot gardeners tend to my marijuana plants. :O)

Can I apply for a job as a robot gardener?

Descent
Must agree with Einarus. This one also reminds me of the old game 'Descent'.
Although this is not really the sort of music, I'm generally listen to, nevertheless it sounds very interesting.
Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, I like PC, PS2 and Xbox games but I haven't heard of that one.

...to go where no man has...
Hey Shmiky,
Thanks for giving a hoot about what I think...
Here goes...
I dig it. I think the textures are translucent and delicious.
You seem to pay enough attention to keeping the audience
interested with enough new information as the song
develops. The middle break down part is a bit on the long
side for my tastes. I felt the pulse could have kicked in a bit
sooner. Overall I really liked it and gave you very high
marks.
Right on. Solid. Groovey.

Space Suit On!
The different sounds with their own textures and nuances
compliment eachother so well...this song takes you on a nice
journey, very well done, zero gravity!

Mungo said 1181 days ago
Excellent Production
I like the progression and layering of sounds. Like Tom, I
think the middle quieter section could go on longer, as its
own piece perhaps.
BTW, if I were to hesitate posting to MacJams thinking I
needed a big hit, I'd never post anything. :)

Cool SCFI groove you have going on this....I am listening
in the morning and it has fillled me with the necessary
energy to go and explore the alien vistas of South London!

I subscribe to Komrade's comment: it reminds me of the Chemical B's, too. Tasty beats and very atmospherical synths. Good production ... keep it up.

There can never be too much bass
This piece rattles the bones in my foot that's resting on my woofer. (That's a good thing!) Great mix of sounds, everything works together and there is room for some surprises. A great example of how using loops does not mean a lack of creativity.
