Description This is a tune from last summer...My son told me that I had been playing and recording too much without him, and he more or less dragged me into the studio room, harmonica in hand, to play with HIM...

This is the result. I played along in G, the key of his harmonica, while my son improvised for about three minutes...then launched into some improvised lyrics...You will hear, I think, the influence of Bare Naked Ladies and The Beatles...

The resemblance to "Subterranean Homesick Blues" is, I think, coincidental...

My son wanted his own MacJams page, but I haven't figured out how to do that from the same email address...He would like to post under the name 'thepeep'...That IS, in fact, a stuffed animal version of a Peep, those marshmallow things so popular at Easter, in his photo...in this case, modified with a Groucho sticker...

I added a little bass, fluffed notes and all, afterwards, but otherwise this is all one big mono take...

We both hope you all enjoy it!
Lyrics I'm afraid you're on your own on this one...

Listen close with headphones for maximum enjoyment!

Heh. This is really cute. I love how your son talks about the
music between harmonica licks. He's got some wild notes in
his playing but the soul he puts into it makes it just fine. I
liked the verses he sang about the horse and the camel and
how hot it was (not even a carrot), and then how no one lives
forever so just sing along. I really enjoyed listening to this.
It's fun to hear musicians' kids playing music with them.

Thanks a lot and just in case you want to know, I'm thinking of a few songs
myself. Maybe I'll put those songs on, too, and you can listen to them. I like your
comments very much.

You're welcome. I'd love to hear more of your music. My dad recorded me when
I was just a kid, too. But I didn't do anything nearly as good as this.

Bare Naked Dylan Man....
Hey this is so cool. Thepeep is a natural born
performer. Like Dylan... who cares what he is
saying, he just sounds good. Great timing on the
harmonica/vocal trade offs young man! Mr.
thepeep you have the makings of blues harpman.
So keep practicing and keep performing and keep
dragging your Dad over to the computer to record. I am looking forward to "Like Horse-Feet To My
Ears Part 2".
Nice guitar accompaniment, Ed. You kept up with
him real nice.

Thank you for the comment, and my Dad just finished reading it to me. And I'm
thinking of some other songs at the moment and I might post them. Here are
the titles of the two that I am thinking of:

Clouds of Love
Like Rockets to Go

And I heard your granddaughter's song, and it was very, very cute!

This IS rather quite interesting.
thepeep, you are such an inspiration and have many wonderful ideas. The first is starting your song with a speech. Not enough people do that these days and I'd like to see you inspire other people to do it.

The second wonderful idea you had was being so free with your lyrics and just feeling the music and letting the music help you figure out what to say. You came up with some very good words like, "Now I'm gonna ride my horse to the fair." "You never can tell when there's butter on toast," and "Even if you don't know how to, just say ooh."

Ooh.

I loved this and think this is absolutely one of the best collaborations between a parent and child, I've heard on macjams.

I also like it that you wanted to play all the notes of the harmonica at the same time. I would like to do that, too.

To the man called, Ed, your dad, thank you SO much for posting this. Your kid has CHOPS. I pray he can stay this free and relaxed with his music his whole life.

Please get him to record more (and get him closer to the mic next time. His words are too good to miss.)

We listened and to one of your songs, and we thought it was good, too, so thank
you for sending me the comment. And we got the part about the roses looking
like crabapple heads. I'm thinking of some other songs at the moment, and I will
post some. Here's a title of one of them that I'm thinking of:

Bravo THEPEEP!
Bravo Thepeep!

This was the most happy tune I've heard on macjams. I
was sitting with a happy smile on my face for the whole
tune through.

Listening to you and your father was the perfect way to
start my day, and after listening I am in such a good mood
that I feel that this is gonna be a very good day for me!
Thank you!

(And tell your dad that he also made quite a good job
recroding and playing the guitar)!

I just listed to one of YOUR songs, and I think it's good. It was good, and Cori,
I think that you should teach your son how to speak English, because it would
be nice, and then I could understand him if I ever talked to him on the phone.
Felix, my Dad has two speakers, and I could hear you in one and your dad in
the other. Apparently, I thought you were really, really, really good. I'm gonna
post some other songs. Basically, some of the songs, they might not have a
good rhythm, but I'm gonna get myself closer to the mic, 'cause one of my
other fans said my words are too good to miss. Thanks for your comment. I
thought, in the top where it said, 'Bravo THEPEEP!, that was funny! And if you
ever want to know what my real name is, it's 'Edge'.

I really liked your songs, and maybe you could put some words into them. Your
short comment WAS a little funny with the smiley and all, but I listened to three
of your songs, and they were really good. I liked how you just used the
synthesizers. In Unfiinished Business it was very creative and mixive, and you're
on your way to be as creative as me. Just kidding. :)

Cool performance. Your son will be quite a performer when
you get him on stage. Somehow I can't imagine him being
afraid at all of the audience.

Catch them when they're young
We listened to your song Weave. I thought it was really good, and do you have
any other songs that actually have words? I thought that your songs was actually
rather cool, with all the mixing stuff and stuff like that. It reminds me of
something that the Beatles sung.

Sincerely,

thepeep

How good was That?!!!
I can't believe that even Thepeep can pull off way more
melody and harmonic structures than Cydniko would ever
considert. Not to be disrespectful to ThePeep of course, I
just thought that age and wisdom counted for more than
it seems here..There's something to be learned here -
like, just have a good time.

Like Cori, I had big phat smile (you can only spell like this
as an adult Peep) on my face too. At times, I burst into
laughter, because P pulled it off so well. I was quite
entertained Peep.

I liked the entire piece. The guitar was off key and off beat
at times, but the harmonica and vocal work carried the
whole piece quite well though.

Hey Peep, would you ever consider giving me some
lessons on how to lay down some melody - I'll
introduce you to the world of chant structures...

Very nice, and I think I WILL give you some lessons. I heard Strange African
Train, and my father stopped it after some time when I asked him not to, and
I thought the rhythm was just plain good. And you were not being
disrespectful. And I listened to another one of your songs, and I thought that
one was just super-good. Oh, and Strange African Train reminded me that
there is a train you can almost hear every day going by at my house. If you
get this message, I might even play a little MORE of your songs, 'cause I
thought the two I just played were really good.

Sincerely,

I just finished listening to one of your pieces of music, and I think you should
keep on writing. If you are right now, keep on going! Did you know that one of
your fans is one of my fans?

This is a day with the family.
And, happiness is recorded.

However, it is musical and it is very progressive.

Wonderful development in gentleness.
Happiness to a lovely son.

I personally think that your music is a little better than mine. Of course, you're a
grownup. And I think that it's great that you're one of my new fans. Did you
know that I have my own page now? We listened to some of your songs, about
Mind If I Smoke and about space. I think they are very good. I think that you
should keep on writing.

Thanks for your comment, although I'm not sure what you meant by 'the knack'.
If you read this before you get the comments on your song, I thought that your
song was pretty good. It was this song about cars and this guy who invented the
first ones.

"The knack" means that you have "the talent" or "the skill".

Fran, when I met you, I didn't even know you WROTE songs, and when I met you,
I wasn't on MacJams, and I wasn't thepeep yet. When I met you, I somehow
sensed that you were somehow special in a kind of way. I don't know if you
sensed the same thing about me. And sure, yes, I would love to give you some
harmonica playing, although I'm not quite all that good when I'm doing it in
front of someone. But what the heck, I'll give it a shot.
