Has anyone noticed that the Apple Online Store (And probably retail too) has like nothing for pro music now? When they opened they had Cubase, and Logic, I don' beleive they've ever had DP though. they do have the bias waveform tools but those don't compete at all with logic so maybe they're seen as 'safe'. I think it really sucks that none of the great plugins, softsynths, or sequencers are available from the Apple store with exception being softsynths and plugins for garage band and logic express/pro. We should fire off emails requesting better gear through the Apple store, the online one if nothing else.

You can buy non-Apple software in places other than the Apple store. It's kind of like complaining that McDonalds doesn't sell Whoppers.

Speaking as a former Apple store employee half the point of 'reinventing retail' was to convince people that someone OTHER than Apple was still making Apple Software. Apprently they've changed that mission.

It is true - I know that Apple used to sell Cubase SL on their web site. Can't remember what else they sold. However, they seem to have pulled Logic's competition from the site. I can understand why they'd do it, though - why promote the competition? They still have Live, though, listed there. Live doesn't directly compete with Logic but I could see situations where someone might look at Logic and then decide to buy Live instead because it better suited their needs. Also, they've got Reason-imitator "Storm" for sale, but not Reason. That could be, though, that they sold out of Reason and are now waiting for Reason 3.

Is there some reason this matters? Prices are always higher at the Apple store so why would anyone buy this stuff there anyway? All of the software mentioned in this thread is easily available at zZounds or wherever you like and at better prices. I think it'd be more productive to pick up on: "DP is damn good and here's why... Get it at ... for ????" Seems to me that one approach is a rant and the other is information.

This seems like a nice time to plug our new "RecRoom" recommendation system. Our product database is driven by Zzounds, which I can say quite unequivocally has better prices and selection than the Apple Store could ever hope to.

One tip if you're looking for software: most software products have the platform somewhere in the title field. Therefore, if you enter "macintosh" in the search field, you'll come up with all the software that works with the Mac. You can also combine this with a search just for software items by choosing " Software synthesizers and Samplers" from the Category menu.

And don't forget to fill out a review for any items you own or have experience using!

Alan, the main reason it matters is a LOT of people are going into the Applestore and buying their first gear, even a lot of folks with cash to burn who buy whatever the salesman tells them too. With no competitors to Logic present you can guess that they'll be swindled into buying before being given any information with which to make their choices.

Evrebody knows a musical shop with more choice then in the Applestore.

I think that Applestore is good for beginners.
