OK...my friend/collaborator is a really fine trumpeter who's been living in France for about 2 years, now. He really likes it. Says it's head and shoulders better for a musician, making a living-wise, than the USA.
Here's an example:
Let's say you write a tune and copyright it. Once it's legally "your tune", you then have an interesting option:
Every time it's performed (even by yourself), it can be registered that it was played at that establishment. At the end of the year, you will collect what are, essentially, royalties for any and all of these performances.
Now...let me repeat that, in case I got it wrong: you can receive royalties for performing your own songs at restaurants, bars, concerts, etc. And, also, if someone else performs them.
I know there are some people from France, on this site. Is this true? Sounds to good to be...8O

![]() r3mig | May 04, 2007 7:50:30 AM Yes it is!!! There is a copyright "police" that checks out bars also and the owner can ge tfined if playing songs without paying dues to the SACEM. The SACEM is the company in charge of the copyrights. You have to register your song with them as either an artist or a band then they check that it is original and that's it, just wait for your loyalties (minus their share). |

May 04, 2007 7:59:03 AM Wow! That is so cool! So if you play all year in different clubs, bar, etc. Basically you get a hunk of change at the end of the year? Hmmm...How's the rock scene out there? | |
![]() guitapick | May 04, 2007 11:19:57 AM Ain't that something? So, if you're a pretty popular act and play out a lot, you can make some significant money. Even if you're not famous. Love to have that here in the States. |
