I'm new to GB. Have just recorded some tunes and am sending them in for copyright.

I exported them to iTunes and converted them from AIFF to mp3. When I burned them to CD, I found I could play them on any computer, but not on my 5 year old Marantz CD player.

I know that this is an issue that's dealt with in iTunes Help...but have found that mp3s that were converted from Pro-Tools played fine on the same CD player.

Still sending the CD-R in to the copyright office because it plays fine on computers...just wondering if anyone has a clue on this...?

You would be better off burning an Audio CD (Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Burning) to ensure compatibility with most audio players...

Hi Bob... iG.Studio hints at some vagueness in your description. The way you put it, you could have burned the CD as an AUDIO CD, or as an MP3 CD, you didn't tell us which.

#1 - If you burned it as an MP3-format CD, that would explain why your AUDIO CD Player won't read it. You need to do as iG states, and switch iTunes to burn an Audio CD. Also, I think the Copyright office may require this format... so the CDs you sent may not be accepted... I dunno if they require Audio CD format.
#2 - If you burned it as an AUDIO CD, and your AUDIO CD player won't read it, this could be because the CD blanks you used use an internal dye that isn't recognized by the old player... you may need to try a different manufacturer of CD-Rs (switch from cheap Maxells to more expensive TDK or verbatim, for example.)

Hope this helps.

Thanks, guys.
I've been using the Audio CD format. Guess I'll have to look for a better quality CD.
Thanks, again.

If you are burning audio CD's then you shouldn't be converting the files to mp3 first. All you are doing is reducing the quality of the audio for no benefit. AIFF is the format used on audio CD's. Basically, you're taking an AIFF, compressing it down to mp3, and then converting it back to AIFF on the CD, but now with the quality loss caused by mp3. It's not responsible for the problem you're having with the CD being read by the player though. That's probably due to the CD player you have not liking CD-R's or at least not some brands. Most, but not all, new CD players can handle home burned audio CD's.

cool...I'll remember that about the AIFF to mp3 to AIFF conversion. This was just a cd for the US copyright office. I'll erase the mp3s I've got on my iTunes, now, and redo them from GB to AIFF and keep that way.
Thanks.
