Sharing GarageBand files requires a little finesse, just attaching them to emails ain't gonna work!
I was really pleased with how YouSendIt worked, but it seems to be dead now.
What happened?
What's a recommended alternative these days? Pando seems OK, but the client-side download is a pain, and it makes me wonder if it'll stay "clean" - that is, no spyware, etc., in the future...
Can anyone recommend good methods of filesharing at the moment?

January 13, 2007 9:43:18 PM I have always used Pando but it can be glitchy at times. I also am very interested in viable alternatives. | |

No problems here. 8O For me, it crashed Safari with one of those error messages with a number and a request to send it along to Apple... which (I'm ashamed to say) I didn't. So I tried again. Zilch. Tried to use Google. Dead. Rebooted. Tried YouSendIt again. Nope. Gave up with that. Pando worked fine. I was sending a 23M .band file (which is actually a package of files I believe). I've done that before without a problem. |
![]() drakonis | January 13, 2007 10:33:57 PM First of all, Garageband files look like a single file to MacOSX, but to the rest of the world, they are a directory that holds a bunch of files inside... so as with most file transfer programs, you should collect (and compress) this bunch of files into a single file before sending... especially web sites that don't expect you to send a directory of files but a single file. This is also worth doing because it can often drastically speed up file transfer. You can do this by first control-clicking on the GB file from the Finder, and from the menu, choose "Create Archive of.." and it will compress all the files into a single (smaller) ZIP archive, which you can send off to another Mac user. The recipeint can simply double-click the file in the finder, and it will magically uncompress. This is built-in to the Finder now, which means that Stuffit is no longer really needed. I remember having a lot of trouble with Yousendit and Safari. It worked better with Firefox I think. Pando's nice, but it does take a little while to get across. I just recently found out about this one, but haven't tried it yet. Anybody know about it? http://www.quicksharing.com/ ttfn, Drakonis |

Perhaps there was actually only one file in those previous successes? I know that this time, I had some extra audio tracks in the song (they're in the Media folder inside .band I think). Maybe I didn't have Media files before, I don't recall. I guess I'll try archiving next time... Thanks for the tip! |

Yep, Firefox is a much better browser than Safari, IMO. A lot of stuff seems to work better with it. I haven't used Safari in so long, I can't remember. |
![]() michael2 | March 18, 2007 9:18:14 PM i also like mediafire (although it has to be under 100 mb), gigasize, and megaupload. i have a friend I collaborate with in Sao Paulo who has a problem getting stuff from megaupload, but no one else does. |
![]() jiguma | March 18, 2007 9:25:59 PM I've had success with Pando, YouSendIt and DropLoad - YouSendIt didn't work for me for a while, but seems to be OK again now. Stuffing folders before sending is always a good idea. Sometimes changing from Safari to Netscape or IE (just for the file transfer) can make a difference. Neil B) |
