I'm pretty sure I used to know this, but I forgot. What's the code to create a hyperlink in a song's comments (comments on a song page)? The usual HTML code (a href= followed by web address, etc.) doesn't seem to work.
N.B. I'm talking about a link to an external website, if that makes any difference.
Thanks.

![]() Peter Greenstone | May 19, 2006 12:53:38 PM A hyper-link to an external website works no different that one to a page here on MJ. Just hit the URL button, paste the URL you want to use, and then hit the URL button again to finish the code. Also, if there is ever anything you see someone has done in their post using HTML and you would like to know how they did it then just hit the Quote button on their post and it will start a reply post for you with their post quoted in it, showing exactly what they typed. That's how I learned. Take THIS for example. (ON EDIT) I just noticed that you were talking about using hyperlinks on song comments not in the forum. I don't know if the same code works there. Let me try... Yes, it works exactly the same there, though you have to type in the code yourself. |
![]() composerclark | May 19, 2006 5:18:51 PM Thanks very much, Peter. What I was trying to do was paste a link to Tom Atwood's CD at iTunes in my response to his comment on a composition of mine, but it never works, despite repeated attempts. The link code works perfectly well; I tested it in Dreamweaver, and I've pasted it below in case anyone wants to check it: Songs From the American Plain So it isn't the code that's the problem. When I write the comment, I make sure that I use "HTML mode." Presumably this is what I'm supposed to do (?). But when I hit "Submit," the link doesn't work. When I "view code" for the page, I notice that line breaks have been added to my code, which presumably is where the problem lies. I'm talking about the HTML code for a line break ("br"). But how'd they get there??? It's a relatively minor thing, obviously, but it bugs me that I can't figure it out! In case you or any other kind soul want to take a look at the song page in question, it's here; scroll to the very bottom of the page, and you can see I've tried this several times in a reply to Attwood, which is just above Cydniko's comment. Thanks again for your response! |
![]() Alannah | May 20, 2006 10:33:59 PM The thing to WATCH in this is when you PASTE the LINK ... it seems to double up on the HTTP:// part ... you just need to manually DELETE one of them for the LINK to work properly ... this seems to be a common problem because by clicking the URL button ... the initial HTTP:// part is supplied for you ..... and dont forget to click on URL at the END of the link also ... should solve your problem. Oh WAIT ... I just re-read that and I think I am answering the wrong question in the wrong place .. hahahahaha> |
![]() drakonis | May 20, 2006 10:53:01 PM Clark, I think there may be some magic code on the Macjams server that is looking for HTML tags in your text and preprocessing it (uh, "doing weird things to it") before it gets posted to the comment window... this is likely a question to send to the admins (click the FEEDBACK link at the top of the MJ page)... I think this is a "bug", that is, an undocumented/unexpected feature. One thing you can do is leave it "raw" text, without the angle brackets, and see if that works... like this: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playListId=128017743 ttfn, Drakonis |
