Playing melodies, loops, beats and rhythms from both, simultaneously. All to be exported "in synch" into a single stereo AIFF. | |

March 09, 2006 3:21:23 PM Reason3 kicks major.I use it rewired into Live5.Also there are so many free refills for Reason and the combinator is SO powerful.I love Reason. Can you tell? I've used it since version 2 and have gone thru a love/hate thing with it.I've even uninstalled it for a few months. But I regained my sanity and re-installed it.What do and don't you like about it? ![]() hacked_to_pieces | March 09, 2006 5:05:27 PM Like all other musical instruments and apps it's all up to the user. Reason only sucks if the user does as well. Now granted to get really great sounds out of Reason alone requires some knowledge of the program, but I've heard amazing song produced entirely in Reason and have also heard pure crap. So to sum it up don't blame the software, blame the operator. |
![]() bryanjbenting | March 09, 2006 9:25:17 PM I would have to say that Reason is by far my favorite audio related program. I used to produce with a lot of gear and what I made was never ending jams not songs. Now with virtual gear I can save my progress, arrange my tracks with more purpose and create far greater layers than I ever could with gear. I didn't see a very in-depth critique of the program (at the beginning of this thread), but I would guess that you thought Reason could do things that it can't. Like if you wanted to record vocals into it , output midi note data or chop loops. Besides lacking those things, Reason gives one a vast amount of tools and possibility in producing. Those drawbacks can be worked around by using ReWire with other programs as described earlier. I have seen people use it with Cubase to record any number of accompanying inputs, like vocals or drum machines. I have seen people use it with Abelton Live to incorporate midi output as well as other sound channels. I have also seen people record things and use Recycle to make the sounds into quantizeable loops and bring them it into Reason. I learn new things about Reason all of the time. When I first sat down and played with it I would have told you that I didn't like it either. But in time (and effort) it has easily won a devoted fan in me. Learning how to hit "Tab" to see the back of the rack, how to automatically hook-up gear as it is created, as well as useful shortcut keys, and awesome patches got me completely addicted. Let us (MacJams) know if you need to know how to do anything, I am sure people here would chime in with some suggestions. |
![]() John Stebbe | March 10, 2006 5:23:40 AM I took a music technology class at IUPUI last summer, and one assignment was to use Reason to create a drum track. All the while I was doing this, I was thinking "GarageBand" is SO much easier, and the end result (because of the pre-recorded drum loops available) is so much more satisfactory. The REASON tracks I was creating just shouted "MIDI!" But that was my only experience with Reason, so I'm sure there are Reason users out there who can create drum tracks which sound much better than what I did in that one class meeting. |

![]() Axgrinder | September 17, 2007 3:30:18 PM I'm hearing you brother! But until Peter Tools comes out with a "mac" version of Hammer, I'll have to do all my live recording via Logic, Abelton, GB or Audacity! And if by chance he does, I hope to have a new mac mini or at least a multi client audio card with big balls! Reason is in some ways "deeper" than Logic and I actually like the effects better as well as the interface. The cleanest interface I've seen is Abelton Live. Their all great programs in their own right. Technology rocks, it's keeping up with it that's the trick. We actually had to know how to play back in the day, eh? ;-Peace Alvin |

Lol. Your right man. just about anyone can sound good if they can master the binary beast! Hope your lessons go well my friend. ;-Peace Alvin |

![]() alfalpha | September 17, 2007 8:25:27 PM I have Reason 2, which I find very impressive, especially the sounds which are available. I'm equally impressed with the little memory each project takes up & how little RAM is 'chewed' up, no matter how large one makes 'the rack'. Unfortunately, I have an aversion to learning curves, but, no matter, I'll s-l-o-w-l-y work through this as time permits. My only gripe would be the absence of a 'notation' window, but I guess Reason's reason for this is its' original reason for its original intended use....(sheesh, now I'm REALLY confused....) erm, anyway, back to that 'ol 'learning curve'! :) |
