![]() Alannah | February 21, 2006 6:07:52 PM I was just curious .. has anyone here ever auditioned for American Idol .... or Canadian Idol .... or Europe (whever else) Idol ??? If so .... what happened ..... personally I am too old for the Idol Shows ... I think you need to be between 16-28 years old. |
![]() Alannah | February 22, 2006 1:55:29 PM 28 reads ... not one person .... wow ... either that means that the answer to my question is NO ... or this is a really boring topic that no one wants to read about ... HAHAHAHAHAHA |
![]() CIPHER | February 22, 2006 3:03:16 PM I'm: a) too old b) too fat c) too hairy Oh yeah, and I can't sing either. I smell a discrimination lawsuit here. |
![]() loyd vader | February 22, 2006 4:25:36 PM i had been meaning to have a go as ive heard the audition day is a lot of fun if you dont mind waiting in queues......but once i "built up the courage" as it were, i had turned 28 and the race was over..... do i win $2 |
![]() echoroom | February 23, 2006 7:58:42 AM The quesion is why, isn't it? (it's called Pop Idol in the UK). I post stuff on Mac Jams 'cause I like writing songs. I assume that people go on these shows: a/ For a bit of a laugh (and if you listen to my stuff, you'll know that counts me out), or b/ To be famous by singing cover versions in an anodyne style, or singing cheesy songs aimed at the lowest common denominator (and 10 year old girls), and to have a career of about 1-2 years before you get flushed back down the bowl or become a TV presenter, or work t'clubs as they say up north. And I ain't cute, so there's no way I'd get past the first audition. |
![]() mandimonkee | February 23, 2006 8:02:55 AM a friend of mine auditioned for American Idol. She spent like 6 hours waiting only to be told to come back the next day. She actually got onto the televised portion of the show, but left on her own because she missed her child! |
![]() ChrisSly | February 23, 2006 5:30:11 PM I know a guy who went to college with one of the "going to Hollywood" contestants from last season. Since I don't watch that piece pf shite, I can't remember which one it was. Demitri, maybe? Me, far too old and far too "Broadway" for those taste-makers. |
![]() Tiny_Man_Inside | February 23, 2006 5:38:59 PM These idol shows make me want to puke. I'd rather hang out naked on the top of Mount Everest than watch that crap. I think I'd ask anyone I know to shoot me if they ever saw me on that show. There's a million times more talent on this site than if you add up every person whose been on that show since it started. |
![]() rover101 | February 25, 2006 5:02:50 PM The thing to remember here is MONEY; the organisers care far more for demographics than demos, quantity than quality, and safety than achievement. I'd like to call them down, but they're on such a different planet to most musicians that all I can say is I'm glad I don't own a TV. Cheers, Shaky  |
![]() loyd vader | February 25, 2006 8:34:42 PM as rage against the machine said, you gotta know your enemy........... that and the fact that id never let a tv show get to me like it has gotten to some of you guys..... in australia, its a flat out popularity contest, as the runners up are consistently more succesful than the actual winner. like ive said before, i dont let commercial aspects govern what i listen to. if i likes it, then i likes it, and i happen to like soaring vocals so go to idol for my fix as i dont listen to radio. plus its easy to unwind in front of after a hard days work.......... im not defending the show, as most of you have valid points in relation to the show sucking ass, but im not a snob, and i realise that idol is an oppurtunity for a lot of people who arent 'alternative' enough to be as cool as all you guys............ i do feel that australian idol is way cooler than idol in any other country though..........our hosts are funny, not cheesy and evrything seems way more down to earth than say american idol for example..... ive heard that canadian idol is a pleasant watch....... all that from someone who writes nasty punk songs.................. |

![]() thetiler | October 11, 2006 12:01:44 AM Money, money and more money! There would be no question I would be out, cause I am older. A lot of famous actors and actress fear bigtime cause when they start getting wrinkles they think they are on their way out. So they get everything done to them under the sun. Of course that wouldn't faze the Idol show cause they could get everthing done ten times over and they would be out on their ear. Look at Elisabeth Cotton, she made it when she was much older (hit record that is "Frieight Train) if she had to depend on the idol show to get a hit record, you would never of heard her name and it would be earased from the history books. |
![]() vbluesky | October 11, 2006 1:42:16 AM How old was the latest winner and I know someone who knows someones sister who auditioned and had a fun time with the whole process, I think that there shouldn't be a age limit |
![]() Leon | October 11, 2006 9:35:16 AM While I admit without reservation that there are great vocal talents in that show, the Idol format of judging winners is a total disaster and a pathetic mockery of fairness. Those who move on to the next round are "voted in" by the number of dialed and re-dial calls, rather than by unique votes. A 13 yr old giddy fanatic whose vocabulary consists of duh, like, and whatever, can tirelessly call in 300 times and have far more influence on the outcome than 100 mature, serious musicians who each called in one vote. (In that span of time, how much money have the show producers and the phone companies made?) That explains why Diana DiGarmo and Clay Aiken have been in the final two and some mediocre gorgeous girls and relatively talentless good looking boys have made it to the final twelve. As for the vocal talents in that show, watching some of these singers can either make you listen in disbelief (Latoya London, Mario Vazquez), or cringe and reach out for an ear plug (Taylor Hicks, what a so-so winner!). Also, there is a bias of this show towards pop and cheesiness. Where is the rock, the alternative, etc? If John Mayer or Norah Jones (both of whom I am a fan of) competed in this show, they will be blown away by the big belters and vocal stylists. This show is for show-offs, not for the mellow vocalists and sensitive and sensible musicians. If that were not enough, the silly antics of its judges, particularly the smug infallibility and ruthlessness of Simon Cowell, makes me want to practice my ball pitching with the TV as the catcher. Am I the only one who sees beyond his put-on tough exterior and sees his remarks as contrived and rehearsed and meant as a bait for laughs rather than a serious evaluation? If I were a contestant on that show, I may end up with bloody knuckles and Simon missing a few of his front teeth. Paula is sweet, and often drunk as she may be, she's forgiven. :-) And what's with that language-challenged dawg-dood-woot-woot Randy Jackson, who is about as articulate as my pet iguana? These judges are promoters of great music as the used-car salesman is to quality cars. So there.. all the great reasons why I am itching to audition for this show. If you want all-around talent and not just sheer vocal cord acrobatics, the place to be is Macjams, or maybe even your local open mic bar. |
![]() jgurner | October 11, 2006 10:19:00 AM Quote by: CIPHER a) too old b) too fat c) too hairy I think they should do a version for those of us 35 and older who may, or may not, fit into that category. Of course I don't think it would be as popular because I figure not many of us who have actually gone out and experienced life would stand there and be judged by washed up pop stars and let some pompus twit riducule us just for a chance to be on television. But I think the talent would be much better. |
![]() Warren Smith | October 11, 2006 11:32:37 AM Quote by: thetiler Look at Elisabeth Cotton, she made it when she was much older (hit record that is "Freight Train) if she had to depend on the idol show to get a hit record, you would never of heard her name and it would be earased from the history books. By chance, I happened to see Elizabeth Cotton's guitar one day while touring the Erie Canal Museum in Syracuse. "Freight Train" is a catchy little tune. But it would never triumph in the "Idol" format. |
![]() snowdragon | October 11, 2006 12:13:21 PM Well, thank God I'm too old. I covered two Canadian Idols with the paper I work for, mostly because a local nerd won the damn thing. Can't even remember his name. Looked like Elvis Costello. Lotta hype, little substance if ya ask me. |
