Actually, I believe it is posted under the record label "Lost Records," which MacJammer Alimar runs... so it's a Win-Win! I don't actually know where the money goes, but I'm sure both Daphna and Alimar will benefit!!

thanks for your question. Each case is different for how much each person gets. In my case for example, I'm my own publisher right now, so I get more than I normally would if I had a music publisher. Then the label gets a percentage and the eBroker gets a small percentage, and then iTunes gets the largest amount I believe.

As for production of the song, that was only myself who did that work, and I also did alot of the promotion and marketing of this song quite some time prior to signing with the label, and I still continue to do ALOT of that kind of work since being with them, which is maybe a month now. Of course the record label does its own marketing and promotion, which is part of their fee. Also, this song had a fairly good fan base and presence even before it went on iTunes. For example, it is no longer on this site, but when it was, it had the most number of hits of any song on the site, and was very popular also on iCompositions, not to mention other places online.

So everybody gets something. Most important is to remember that creating good music is work like any other work, so the artists who create it should be compensated : )

That's the part that interests me, daphna! My first CD was put out through CDBaby and when I sell a song on iTunes, I get 70 cents out of 99, which is outstanding - but CDBaby does not do any promotion for you whatsoever (nor should they with the small fee they charge, I guess.) For my second CD I sure would like to sign a deal with someone who'd actually market the thing a little bit. I'm an absolute disaster at marketing. I've considered Magatune, but I am not certain how much they market their artists - plus of course I'd have to be accepted by them, which might or might not happen.

I also think it's cool how you released the song as a single - CDBaby won't get you onto iTunes unless you have a whole CD.

Yeah, I guess the scenario is quite different when you have a whole cd you are trying to market and distribute. I have no experience with CDbaby, but sounds like you are getting a good return for each cd sold! On the other hand, if there's not much going on in the way of marketing, then that can only go so far I suppose. I only had the single song in mind and iTunes stores seemed to be the easiest and quickest route to getting it out there. It all depends on the label you are with too. I went with The Lost Records because of our mutual affiliating with macjams. You can always talk to them, or post a question in a forum about finding good record labels. I really don't know how one goes about finding the "right" label through which to sell one's cd I'm afraid. Best of luck to you! cheers.
