ok, i have a favor to ask of everyone. i'm having troubles finding the types of songs i really like on here. i listen constantly and search and find alot of great stuff but rarely the music i truly love. and it's hard because what i like is often put under so many different categories. so i was wondering if everyone could post links to there dark, sorrowful, and mellow songs. something that goes for the emotions. it doesn't matter what the genre is. i love all music, but with how many songs there are on here and so many categories im finding it a difficult search. and i'd like to get alot of new tunes for my ipod.

Most of my songs are pretty doomy, especially two songs dealing with murder/potential murder :'The Hanging Tree' and 'The Tide Runs High' (sorry I don't know how to post links!)

As you search out these songs you can keep track of them by using the playlist feature, which leads me to a question. Has anyone been using the playlist feature? Any chance we could share playlists at some point? I would love to browse various collections of MacJams songs cherry-picked by other members.

Okay, you say any genre will do, here are my two classical contributions that fit your description; the first has received lots of hits, so possibly you've heard it already, but the second has had only 3 votes as I write this, so maybe it's heading towards voting oblivion!: Interlude for String Orchestra, and Last Dance.

I look forward to checking out other submissions in this category!

Hmmm... lets see what I have to offer.

I think that the improvisations that my violinist friend did for No15 (the Indian Rape in stereo) are fantastically lyrical and are certainly worth a listen if you have any interest in Eastern flavoured music... however the piece starts off like that and gets more and more aggressive as it goes along (shadows a drama production where a guy gets raped at the end of the scene).

Though its not my grestest piece No12 has some excellent, emotive moments in it (particular the last 2 minutes of the piece) and does an excellent job (I think) of showing you what the pencil tool and one sound font is capable of.

Also Lament for the Witches might interest you too... it was also another drama production song.

Now for other people:
DuoAzzoni (the guys I directed to you earlier today) have got some fantastic stuff... fantastic improvised performances... but not much in the way of post production though.

Atonalis has some fantastic stuff... the more melancoly/mellow of which would probably be downloadthedown and then his most recent track fallthroughparanoiA. Both have fantastic sounds, production and are incredibly interesting to listen too (like most of his walk).

Doing the eggshell walk by Ziti and Jiguma is also one that hits a chord with me... but that may not be the sound you're looking for.

Hope thats helps.

What I like about threads like this is that it enables us to discover gems missed the first time around, or, in my case, missed because I only joined MJs two weeks ago. Just listened to "the Indian Rape," and left a relatively lengthy comment. Very dark, powerful stuff. Thanks.

Just thought of another that you might want to check out: Late-Night Blues.

It's dark, but I'd characterize it as more "cool" than "emotional." It's in the jazz instrumental category, and was my first upload here, so it seems to have gotten buried.

thanks everyone seems ill be busy when i get home. ive tried to use the playlist feature but it confused me. i thought id be able to play the list of my page, but it seemed it only brought you back to the original song :/ we should be able to create playlists and play songs from our site with out having to revisit the page, and have the play lists play straight through.. that's what i thought it was supposed to do.

Hi Screamalexz,

Take a listen to my track, "Little Clues". Don't forget to leave comments for everything you listen to...-)

I usually categorize my songs as "dark" and "emotional", so you might enjoy them. My entire album tells a dark story, so you might enjoy them better in context when it comes out. I'll be adding better versions of my songs on here soon though, so if these links don't work, it probably means I've uploaded the new version.

Temptress
Accoustic track. The chorus begins: "Genocide, Vivicection, Reaper of Light"

Quest
I believe this will become my hit. It has everything on acoustic. Slow picking, slow rhythm, palm mute-esqe rhythm, fast rhythm, bass vocals, baratone vocals, and even an evil laugh.

Farewell Song
Electric finger-picked with haunting vocals.

Misplaced Prey
Electric finger-picked with an overall other-worldly mood.

For a sort of sentimental sad:
Stars On My Ceiling

For a more dark feeling:
Person Or Persons Unknown

For sad AND dark:
Emmet
