i have a friend that uses this site and recommended it to me so i'm hoping to get a friendly answer to my issue. i just bought m-audio fast track pro today - set up with a shure sm58 and i'm trying to record me singing/playing acoustic and harmonica. i've tried everything i can think of with garageband and the interface but no matter what, if i plug into side one on the front, sound only records on the left side. if i plug into 2, it only records on the right. i've tried everything from hitting the mono/stereo buttons to messing with every thing and knob i have available on both the interface and in garageband. can someone think of a potential way i could fix this?
be gentle, it's my first time.

maybe this will help:

http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/FAQPages/LeftSpeakerOnly.html

that site is a really good source of info, as is bigbluelounge.com, the apple garageband discussion board, and of course MJ. welcome to MJ, hope to see you around and hear all of your tunes. everyone is really friendly here, I never feel weird about asking a question anymore.

Hello Mike,
If I understand correctly you are recording with just one microphone. That means that you are recording in mono and your input should be set to mono.
The only ways I know of to turn that into a stereo effect is either with a stereo spread plug in or by duplicating your audio track into a second track and moving one of those audio regions very, very slightly to the left or right of the other one. Pan one track left and the other right and add slightly different effects to each. Hope this helps and welcome to Macjams.
Cheers

if you hit the link at the top for music, it's all there at your fingertips. or you can look at the left side of the page, and whoever is online, if you hit the musical note next to their name it will play their last tune. welcome aboard.
