![]() Jim Bouchard | September 08, 2008 6:20:53 PM In the new issue of Mojo, there's a CD of people doing covers of the first disk of The Beatles' white album, and by far the best on that CD is Julie Fowlis' cover of "Blackbird" in Scottish Gaelic. Simply lovely. Here's a link to a sample: http://www.mojo4music.com/blog/2008/07/julie_fowlis_covers_blackbird.html |

![]() duhdewd | September 08, 2008 7:11:02 PM Ben Harper does a killer live version of Zepplin's Whole Lotta Love on his Weisenborn with the Innocent Criminals backing him, there's even a recording of it on Live from Mars. I don't think it's quite better than the original studio version but it is certainly on par with the live performances I've seen and heard Zepplin do on DVD. |
![]() Lennon714 | September 09, 2008 1:49:17 AM Rad. Armbruster's forum topics are almost as good as his songs. Great thread. I'm a sucker for a good cover. Teenage Fanclub doing "Tell me what you see" by the Beatles. An average tune turned in to a sparkling pop gem. Credence Clearwater Revival doing Marvin Gaye's "I Heard it Through the Grape Vine". Give me all the shit you want, but I can't get enough of the Bangles doing Simon and Garfunkel's "Hazy Shade of Winter". Harvey Danger did a great job with "Save it for Later". can't think of the original artist off the top of my head... A cover that I would pay an unreasonable amount to hear is Weezer doing "If I Fell" by the Beatles. Apparently, they did it in their early shows in LA in '92, '93. I've never heard of a recording existing, but it's been mentioned they used to do it. |

They recorded one album of covers. Really good and worth checking out if you're a fan of those bands. Their cover of 'Just What I needed' is really good too. I have that disk. A heavy cover of Cinnamon Girl is one of the highlights of the album. I also thought they did a great version of 'Are Friends Electric', but my favorite Numan Cover is by a relatively unknown French band - Tupperware Army : You Are In My Vision |

Not sure it's better than the original but pretty close |
![]() Epileptic Gibbon | September 09, 2008 3:14:32 PM Quote by: Roca_Atomica Hollywood has never, in my experience, improved on Asian horror movies. 'The Ring' is a pretty watered down version of the original 'Ringu'. But I agree about the Cronenburg version of 'The Fly' being better than the original.Quote by: VicDiesel PS I thought the hollywood remake of The Ring was better than the japanese original. The one and only time where Hollywood improved on the Japanese version of a horror movie ... that I've seen, that is. I also claim that the Cronenburg version of "The Fly" with Jeff Goldblum is superior to the original, which starred David Hedison, who went on to command the SeaView. |

It's a genius version and it's astonishing how Shatner gives the song a sense of menace that isn't apparent on the original version. If you haven't heard it then you won't believe me..but William Shatner's version of Pulp's 'Common People' knocks 7 bells out of the original |
