![]() mvh9591 | September 04, 2008 12:00:36 PM So..... can anyone tell me is Digital Performer 6 worth the upgrade from 4.6? Any DP users that upgraded to 6 care to chime in? Thanks, mvh : ) |
![]() rover101 | September 04, 2008 12:37:43 PM I reckon so; the instruments ain't bad, at all, and the mw leveler (1176 sim) is probably worth the price of admission in and of itself - there's been a couple of threads ltely on the subject, you might want to check them out. Cheers, Shaky |

Thanks, mvh : ) I never used 4.6 so I can't speak to the amount of improvements MOTU has made since then... but I can say that I'm really enjoying 6.01. I've only had about 5 hours of work with it thus far, but wow the Masterworks Leveler is incredible and the quality of the plug-ins alone is great. Did 4.6 come with the Masterworks EQ? If not, the upgrade price would be worth it IMO just for the MW plug-ins. They are really stellar. Also it comes with a convolution reverb now (ProVerb). I haven't played with it yet but the consensus on MotuNation.com is that it is excellent and only a shade below Altiverb (which is widely considered the finest convo reverb available). I would love to see MOTU add a Pulltec-style Masterworks EQ with the next version. That would really round things out by having the surgical (MW EQ) and the vintage (pulltec). mason |

![]() mvh9591 | September 05, 2008 7:14:08 AM Thanks for the replies and advise. I feel DP4 is worth the $500.00 admission so DP6 has to be worth every penny. I was reading about the new plug-ins and convolution reverb and I’m sold on DP anyway – just wanted to get a few opinions from other users before diving in. No_Secret: YES, DP4 has the Masterworks EQ. I use it for mastering only. It tends to be a processor hog so when I'm tracking I use Wave Arts "Track Plug" which has EQ, Compression and Gating in one plug in. (btw – Wave Arts make some great sounding and CPU efficient plug-ins.) Thanks bug – I knew what you would say. Thanks again, mvh : ) |
![]() No_Secret_Revealed | September 05, 2008 7:17:46 AM I've demo'd the wavearts Trackplug and FinalPlug and they are both awesome. I'd love to pick them up but right now most of my discretionary funds are tied up in parts for building guitar amps. Mason |

strizbiz | September 05, 2008 7:27:11 PM I went to dp6 today, Id have to say its a pretty good upgrade and for that matter version 5 was worth upgrading from 4.6. but to be honest, after being a loyal digital performer user for over ten years I tried logic pro 8 this year and it has a lot of great things I wished for in performer. For one it has a built in loop browser (though im not a big user of loops myself it's nice to have thousands of loops at your finger tips if you need one) and it totally blows performer away as far as virtual instruments, synth libraries, plug in pre-sets , and the one thing that bothered me in performer was having to have a track for the virtual instrument and another for the midi tracking for that instrument. I'm gonna still give Dp6 it's day in court for a while longer, but I'm getting really comfortable in Logic, oh yeah, one more thing to mention is that Logic is a lot easier on the processor (being made by Apple I'd imagine so) But I'f I have,t already blabbed too much DP6 is still a great App, I'll probably us both for different things. |

Must agree about the new simplicity of Logic; I think I'm very much going to be creating initially in LE8, and then fine-tuning and mixing in DP (there is no doubt that DP's audio quality is better than Logic's, the main reason DP uses more processor power) |
