... ok ... tell me if this is just an illness ... or am I truly a freak ..... as some of you well know ... I am NOT a musician ... I have no musical ability at all ... what I have done at Macjams is this .... I hear someone's fabulous music ... and then I have my "tinker" on top of the MP3 (mix the vocals badly) and then post it ... so here's the freaky part .... I get a $1,200.00 MAC in my house a year ago ... and I don't TOUCH IT (I continue to use my trusty dusty stoopid PC to do my thang) ..... I cannot string two loops together (honestly) ... then .. I buy this XENYX Mixing board .... ($165.00 I think or so) .... and it has been sitting here on my desk for 6 months because I have no ideas what the heck it EVEN IS !!!! Let alone have cables or what not to hook it up ..... OK here is where it gets SICKER - 3 days ago I come home with a ($179.00) NEXXTECH Keyboard .... I DON'T PLAY FREAKIN PIANO !!!!! I am afraid to push those little drumbeat buttons for fear that I will mess it all up and won't be able to find the piano part again .... *which I ask myself WHY WHY WHY cause I don't PLAY THE PIANO !!!! I cannot read music ... I cannot Play by EAR ..... WTF ... ok .... am I a FREAK? p.s. another $40.00 worth of cables so I can connect all this stuff to my stoopid PC ! HAHAHAHAHAHA which I know I am gonna blow up trying to do it ... and then I won't even have the stoopid PC anymore .... sigh

NOW... you're getting somewhere, Alannah.

Ditch that thing and get on that iMac! And there are plenty of people here who will help you connect your gear. And you can probably find free elementary keyboard lessons online.

So, there you go... get CRACKIN', girl! ;)

alannah, just try the mac. there are a bunch of great tutorials for GB. I watched one on you tube and figured "if that pimple faced little turd can do that so can I." it's really simple and easy to get good sounds. plus you don't need to play piano, you can tap in a note at a time. i'm not that good at piano, but no one ever seems to notice (since i keep it simple).

i have a really nice PC, and hate recording on it after getting used to recording on a mac. it's way more intuitive. give it a shot, i'll help you figure it out. then next thing you know, some one will be downloading your stuff and singing over it. :)

WEll I am having an excited moment here cause I was playing with the Piano thingey .. and I think I figured out the first two chords to the Nina Simone Verion of Wild is the Wind ... hahahaha (well the left hand part anyway) ... took three fingers to do it too ! Who's a proud little puppy now ... I am gonna learn by EAR ! yes I am .... but there is still the question of connecting all this gear together properly ..... I have the cables ..... one small step at a time (so hard to teach an old dog new tricks) !!!!

I don't play keyboard either but with the help of sites like this http://chordfind.com/ I soon 'got by' with my songs. You obviously have a good feel for music and harmony and mainly that's what backing with instruments are about. Just have a bash.... you'll be surprised. All you have to do is find out the chords of the song you want to accompany, look on this site and copy and if you want any fancy runs or bits inbetween you can do it on another track in your own time. Nobody is going to test you on it (until you post it LOL), but you'll be fine, M

It's called Gear Acquisition Syndrome.

I must say that it's cheaper if you only have that for software.

Wanna guess how come I have 500 synths and effects?

Victor.

Well....from one 'FREAK' to another 'FREAK' Alannah.....this is really GOOD news!
I honestly CAN'T WAIT to hear what you come up with.

Not sure about the mac/pc thing. I've always used a mac and most of the time it does what I ask of it. You've posted over 30 songs here...all recorded on a pc right? multitracking...
mixing.....you're there......no real need to change.
It would just mean learning a new machine, OS and DAW.
Put all your energy into loving your instrument/s
Good on ya!

Alannah, it took me a year to try Garageband, because I knew literally nothing about composing or recording. Thanks to Drak, who kept asking me if I'd tried it yet, I finally learned the basics. If I can do it, you can do it! I know what it's like to have all the newbie questions about the computer, so feel free to ask. I'll explain it in language that even I understand.

Actually, it's usually used in sentences like "I have GAS" :-)
