Sounds good smoke, thanks for your support on this one. I can't go into much more detail now(i'm typing this from my phone) but like I said I really wanna start a MJ Pop Challenge. When I get back to a computer I'll clarify everything, work out the kinks as best I can, and make this legal according to the rules of MacJams. Thanks C-Ya
Excellent!
BTW - there aren't any hard and fast rules here - we make 'em up as we go along. But gradual change seems to work better than total revolution. Us Old Guys aren't getting any younger you know! :-) :-) :-)

I liked Smokey's suggestion that Adrian look into how past challenges were done and come up with a structure for this one to happen.
My observation is that it is difficult enough to get individuals motivated for a challenge - though often a challenge will lead to spontaneous collaboration.

Te captain and players concept is interesting but might just repeat some of the groups we already know. How about soliciting participants in general -as in - whoe wants to do this collab thing? and then randomly build teams from the list.
This interests me because it would force me to work outside my comfort zone (smokey, m2, echoroom, five extra arms, vic holman etc) and also force me to be part of a democratic team - no leader/captain - just a consensus once the players are assembled.

I suppose each entrant could site their strengths so the random selections could come from three or four pools (production, writing, playing, singing for example) - once a team is assembled all bets are off and they go about their business crossing lines and getting it done through discovery.

Let's call it the Blind Date Collab Challenge. iSpike and others did something similar a while back - I just can't recall the details.

I believe it says somewhere in my bio that "I defy all that is pop" .... but a challenge is a challenge (kudos to Smokey for the "clarification" - it's all in how you "spin" it sometimes ... heh heh ) .... but IF I'mn IN .. then I wanna be on LEON'S team (if he's in that is) .. hahahahaha gotta stack some odds in my team's favour here ..... so ... put me on a team and maybe I can do some do wap do wap's or something (ooh wait that's not POP) .... maybe a lot of us are too old for this .... (don't put me on VicDiesel's team cause he hates it that I type one GIGANTIC sentence all the time) and we might argue ..... (that's if he's in too ... of course) .....

Wait, wait..

What the hell is wrong with a little competition?! Have y'all gone soft sissy like here at MJ?

C'mon people, his original idea was a great idea.. Why not have a virtual battle of the bands??

Y'all might have forgotten, but back in the day we used to have real competitions not "challenges"! With voting and rankings and even prizes for the winners!!

If yer scared to lose then don't enter, but don't bash the idea because it's not "friendly" enough for ya..

Maybe if he puts up a prize for the winner some of you might grow a pair.

;)

Thanks Smoke, not sure how that works yet tho but I'll check it out.

I just wanted to show you what previous challenges have happened here at MacJams.

You have a great goal here, but I'd suggest changing it from a contest to a challenge. The rules for the previous challenges here might help you adjust your event into something more likely to interest the MacJammers community.

Just an idea...

is why I said NO ...we are here to share our music and to challenge
ourselves to motivate our love to music to create and write and
perfom .. not to compete and challenge " each other " ...

wish I made it clear ... cheers friend !!!

I think you are unnecessarily sharp with Adrian, Feter. Especially knowing that he is still a "newbie" here and doesn't know yet how everything works here.
Otherwise peace :)

I live for competition.. Thats why I was a good Baseball player . And now a good musician.
Live is competition and I disagree with those that say music and art shouldnt be a competition. Call it what you want. But I get upset when I hear a better player than me. Just makes me work harder. It makes me practice more than normal. Now not everyone is built this way. I understand this. But I have a great desire to win and be the best. I cant help it. Some have it some dont...

Close the competition. You WIN!!! Great song, recorded very well with no interference from "rock stars" or hyped-up producers.

Great POP song, love it.... but 'pop',especially to someone Adrian's age group, probably means something entirely different from what a lot of us here might imagine. There are so many styles and genre's in pop, depending on what era it's based on or from. I can't seem to get my head around some of today's pop songs, with no verses or middle eight; they just seem to be a lot of notes and words that just run on and on (pleasant though they might be). So we will need some specifics before we start. Are they to be pop disco? pop ballad? Pop folk? pop........old pop? new pop? progressive pop? Or are all those included?
