I just thought that this post needed to be bumped up to the top again. It has been a while since I have been here at MJ, but I was poking around today and noticed a post from my friend Carl. I wanted to show him my support in his quest to kick his habit. Good for you, Carl! I wish you ALL the best and I am always here if you need someone to talk to, as well. I think it's great that you decided to post this on MacJams, as there is such a wonderfully diverse community of people here that are very understanding and helpful. Think of it as a new start. You might even write a new track and call it "Clean". Hope all goes well for you Carl and hope to hear from you soon. Take good care, my friend!

What an awesome post. Nice to see so many caring, diverse people from all over the planet wanting to comment. I too, throw in my best wishes during this struggling time for you Carl. Just the fact that you decided to make it public means that you mean business. I applaud your efforts and tell you please, don't give up. The outcome of living a drug-free life will be so wonderful. It will be "real", while most drugs distort the good things - as well as the bad. My hope and prayers for you will be that you will endure the rough times and keep saying "no" when the urge arises. We believe in you Carl.

Good for you and good luck. I gave up smoking 8 years ago .. but I am a hopeless case that switched to nicotine gum instead way back then.. and I am still dependent on those. It does frustrate me at times (and is an expensive habit) and should really have a plan at least to start weaning myself of those... and eat more vegetables or something.

YOU Go Carl...

If I list the things I love, and the things that really matter in my life...

My wife... my Children... My studio... the list is really pretty long and I won't go through the whole thing... the point is none of this would be there for me, if I didn't get free from addiction..

Fairly inexhaustible topic I'd imagine. Sex and drugs and rock and roll... have a wee break - then have a nuance or thereabouts more that's my advice as both a bogus psychiatrist and consultant physicist. Or as Wittgenstein might say - "Don't fucking ask me pal."

I don't count smoking weed and hash as an addiction! it's simple and regular!

ok .... this thread slipped from its original track ..... to the ... other track ..... so here I come with my opine ..... I have tried and done every drug ever invented .. and I thank whatever higher power there is ..... that I did not become addicted ... however ... I am addicted to nasty cigarettes ... and of course I DO have beer Friday which has somehow morphed into Beer Saturday ... and Yes Beer Sunday on long weekends ..... recently diagnosed with High blood pressure .... (OFF the charts high blood pressure .... ) ... I was sent for a whole series of exams ... heart ... blood ... blah blah blah ... bottom line ... I was told I need to LOSE the cigs ... I need to LOSE the FATTY foods which I am also addicted to ... I need to THINK about the BEER ... the whole gamut .... I don't wanna give up any of these fun things .... BUT .... in the past month .. I have lost 12 lbs ... I have cut the smoking in HALF ... well .. the beer Friday so far is still ON .... but all things in good time ... one small step at a time .... the moral to MY now getting to be a large diatribe here is this ..... don't set unrealistic goals for yourself .... cause you might fail if you try too much at one time ... ONE DAY AT A TIME .... each day is a triumph ..... if you slip ... well then BACK on the TRAIL tomorrow and keep at er !!!! Quitting anything is NOT easy ... but given time ... all things are possible ... I commend you for your bravery .. your perserverence .. and your WILL to change things for your own health and well being ! May we all SUCCEED when we are faced with our own mortality or well being! We do what we need to do for US!

I think it is absolutely one of the best things that has ever been said here. Because it really seems that you have a sincere desire to improve your lifestyle. And 3 days is very commendable I would think.
I am no expert in marijuana, though I did try it once decades ago when I was about 19. But I sure have received an incredible amount of joy with my little studio and playing the guitar. Keeping those hands busy, an as creative possible with playing music is to me a great way to overcome or at least get your mind on things that can improve your intellect. Especially working on uplifting pieces of whatever your musical style is.

I am really impressed that you posted this and wanting to better yourself!

Way tO Go ! Really! Best of blessings to you !

I was too -impressed You posting this ! Be kind to Yourself even if you fall - PRAISE YOURSELF for the 3(?)days:P !! Thumbs Up for You
I still think alcohol is a worse addiction
When I was Young I was addicted to drugs for years...eventually got into something called 'rebirthing' a breathing techniq which gets You in contact with alot of hidden feelings & insights(all addictions repress(? press down)our feelings more or less-feelings we in the western world especially find'uncomfortable. I also did "Recouncelling" http://www.rc.org/ which helped me ALOT & doesnt have to cost a fortune. There are loads of different ways to do things, different things suit different people, now I mostly pray & thank for what I have :)
I've been using/addicted to/ nicotin & coffee on&off for years. So I don't mind being addicted to this place !

Anyhow to 'get high' naturally- is an AMAZING experience -
I wish The Best for You !

I have a great idea, JJET....why dont you piss-off. Your negativity and condescending comments are NOT welcome here. The people of this community are showing their support for a member of this site and you cheapen it. I have little tolerance for ignorance, which means I have little tolerance for you. Why not give something more productive and positive to this community by posting something on your page that you have created. Earn some respect, not enemies. Ok...I'm done... for now. Take care & welcome to MacJams. Enjoy!

Great Scott Boris,

If that is how you joyfully greet new,or slightly non-productive members to this jolly old site then I would seriously not wish to actually incur your wrath :-) Cheerio.

Hi all,
Just thought I would take a second to let everyone know I am doing well and going on a week of sobriety. I still think about smoking all the time. It is tough not to. I have been keeping busy with family and work and trying to make some new tunes. Hopefully I will post a worthy track eventually. Thanks to all of you for your support. I appreciate it very much and it has been very helpful to know that you guys care.
