 mikey_d | May 15, 2008 3:18:22 PM In Logic 8 (which is similar if I remember correctly) go to track automation-  Then the tracks in your project will expand (widen). You can click the darkened line to add automation points and the line will turn yellow like this-  When you show the track automation, there's a menu on the left side of each track to select what you want to automate. I believe volume is selected by default. Sorry I don't have a pic of that menu but I think you'll find it. |

On the other hand you can click the track header on the left to select the track you'd like to fade volume or pan and press Z to auto zoom on the track. Then press A and the track automation will only appear on that track. Do your volume/pan editing and when you're done, press A to turn off automation and then Z to un-autozoom the track and you're all done. |

I haven't read up on the short cuts and it's a pain to have all of the tracks opened up sometimes. Thanks for adding this! |
 blimblam | May 23, 2008 2:57:15 PM Hi..You don't need to open the automation window at all to do automation of simple things like volume and pan..Change READ to TOUCH then go to the mixer window and make the changes in realtime..They are automatically recorded..No need to record arm the track..Read the manual about what is meant by Touch, Latch etc..Also be sure to turn the READ option back on or you can inadvertantly change things you may not want to..I prefer this method because it happens in real time..But there are many other times when opening the Automation part of a track is an absolute must...Also as S-Jim mentioned ZOOM..The larger the zoom per track the more finite you will be able to dictate..Again read the manual about the differences between the actions of the automation settings..BB |

Ok, so I consulted the manual. "Automation can only be displayed when a track is of a sufficient height." Ah. So if I squeeze the height of the tracks a bit I'll only get automation on the zoomed track. Works. Still, I have lots of songs with only 3 or 4 tracks, so it's a bit silly to have them squeezed into the upper inch of the arrange window. Victor. |
