There have been some members recently who have uploaded many of there songs all at once. So when I go to the 'Music' section to listen to new stuff, all I get is a page full of 1 persons songs. In my opinion this is along the lines of spamming, and causes other peoples new songs to get pushed down the list, therefore might not get heard.
I choose not to listen to any music from these people. Is there any way that people can be limited to how many song they can upload a day? surely this would be simple.
I have already missed a few good songs because of this, (luckily I have found them eventually from the fan picks etc.)
Please can something be done about this?

![]() magnatone | February 13, 2008 2:42:47 PM I'm still really new here, so I don't know what the "cultural standards" have been on this subject @MJ. But I can say that so far for myself, when I go to the Music page and see many entries from one artist all one right after the other, it feels kind of overwhelming. And like what ajnorth said, I'm tending to look past them for other offerings. Now maybe that's just fine, not unlike "if you don't like the show on the tube, don't watch it", but it does seem like it would have to effect the likelihood of other artists having a shot at getting heard that day. (Though I just got done saying it's not having that effect on me, so I guess I'm contradicting myself). Have there ever been any explicit standards about # of uploads in a day, or anything like that? |
![]() futzpucker | February 13, 2008 2:43:45 PM I believe that if our very welcome new members know that posting multiple songs at the same time is a lose-lose situation, they will not repeat the mistake. It's a lose-lose situation because when you submit in clumps, members are much less inclined to listen to more than one of your songs, and the rest lose their potential audience and go largely un-listened to. Also, the act of submitting in clumps engenders resentment among many of the members here, as evidenced by Mr. North's message, and by many discussions that have taken place over the years in the chat and in the forum. Consider submitting your music in clumps as bad form, hurting your chances of both being heard and of creating good will among fellow members. Members here have differing opinions about how often to submit (mine is one song per week), but resentment of multiple submissions is nearly unanimous. Thank you, and welcome to MacJams. |
![]() Scott Carmichael | February 13, 2008 2:47:03 PM I usually just send a friendly note to the new person, explaining how your songs get fewer listens because you send them out there all at once, and they have to compete with each other, and people have a limited amount of time for listening... I always explain that I made the same mistake when I first joined... i posted 4 at once... all of them received less traffic than they would have if I had paced myself... ... I've usually received a friendly note back, and watch as they adjusted there approach... I'd start there |
![]() magnatone | February 13, 2008 2:47:08 PM guess you just have to get the "bad form" message to the right people somehow. I'm glad to hear it's not just me who wishes it weren't happening. |
![]() Cameron | February 13, 2008 2:48:56 PM Today I mentioned this multiple posting "no-no" to a new member on a comment on one of his songs, suggesting that his submissions may not receive the attention they deserve, if there are too many new songs at once. |

I'd start there yes I did that couple times and always works so well ... but with few other time .I go through and listen to all tracks when the member a true great musician and its like finding a great mine of songs to explore but that cant happened always !!! |

Most of what needs to be said is stated in the responses above. But for now, what you need to do to find a greater variety of new music on the site is to go to the bottom of the page and click on the 2 or 3 or 4 ... as I write this 443 new songs were posted in the last 7 days. That is 9 pages of new songs! Another helpful option is choose a category at the top of the page. |
![]() peacepiano | February 13, 2008 3:28:33 PM And one more suggestion. Skip the music list and instead click on the name of someone who is online. Check out one of their songs and you stand a better chance of hearing back again :) |
February 13, 2008 3:35:08 PM Hi I recently uploaded 6 musics at once . 6 piano solo free improvisations recorded in a few days. It's like an album . What I've seen here is that tracks uploaded long ago wich are not anymore on a visible list on macjam are still "working" . So I'm not looking for a big number of listens or downloads in a few days , I just wish my music to be here and heard by some people . Henri | |

(I don't have any pending uploads to use to try it out :) The solution is to make the list so that it only shows one song by each artist on the page, apparently. So if a person uploads multiple songs, it only displays the most recent. If you listen to that one song and like it, you can go to that artist's page and listen to the rest of their songs. I am sure some people won't like this solution either, Simon, but I do. |
![]() Simon | February 13, 2008 3:45:58 PM Upload as many as you like... if more than one of your songs falls on a page, it will be "hidden"... you can click the "Show All" button to see all of the songs on a page. I'll work on adding some indication of wear there are hidden files and how many. |
![]() Cameron | February 13, 2008 3:51:48 PM Simon, that's an excellent solution. Thanks! |

![]() magnatone | February 13, 2008 4:23:03 PM Ditto Simon - thanks so much - problem solved! (As Drakonis would say, "poof"!) |
![]() peacepiano | February 13, 2008 4:42:20 PM Cool I had to "refresh" my browser to get the solution to show. Thanks Simon |
