There must be a way to gate, say, the snare drum and send a midi note triggered by the gate, surely?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated - or do I have to find a DM4 and wire it up (I hate wires)
Cheers, Shaky

Rob | September 16, 2007 9:57:19 PM You mean an actual snare right? I have a DM5 which is basically the same thing. I presume you are wanting to replace a snare with a snare sample from the D4? Two ways: 1. if it's not recorded yet just plug your snare mic into the associated trigger input on the back and adjust the sensitivity to whatever is optimum for your situation. 2. (And this is how I do it) Track your drum kit. eq an gate your snare in software so you are only getting exactly the hits you want. Then route that out to the trigger input on the back of the D4 to trigger your snare sample. Record this onto another track and voila, sampled snare based on a REAL drum performance. There are some latency issues here because you are playing back, triggering and recording all in real time. So when I'm all done, I compare the wave form of both the original snare and the "new" sampled snare track and use the original to line up the sampled track. Latency issue resolved. |
![]() rover101 | September 16, 2007 10:07:18 PM Sorry, I know this bit....I want to do it inside the computer - mda has a drum replacement plug-in that goes halfway there. Thanks for your quick reply, but I've bin there, dun that, and I don't have a DM or similar available, and quite frankly, don't need another box in the rack and MORE F>>>>ING WIRES (I've spent too much time as a soundman, can you tell) But thanx again, man, and that is right-on about how to do it the external way.
