about
Been playing guitar for longer than I care to remember (or so said the witch) Never very interested in music at school (what would I have done with a good teacher?) so it was surprise to find I had a little talent. My latest project is a rock opera "AmokOpera". The basic premise is that it's about life from conception through to death. I guess it's more of a musical than an opera http://www.amokopera.com Titles in order are Life The Bait It's a Rotten Job (but someone's gotta do it) As She Is Well Fair State The Real United Nations Stick Lottery of Life Vote for Me The Seduction of Corruption Nobody Loves You When You're Old Brown Bread There are various protaganists from the hard working "simple" man to the guy on benefits who's never worked a day in his life. It's really just about their experiences with a very loose story line that we haven't really finalised yet. Graeme Hobbs wrote the lyrics and most of the melodies and I'm arranging them and rewriting the melodies :)

Started on self taught acoustic guitar over 30 years ago. Played and sang very badly in folk clubs until I bought an electric. Then I played and sang very badly in in a number of rock bands. Moved to Brighton in 1979 and joined a punk band Psycho Normal and his Stiff Victims and formed a strong writing partnership with the singer Graeme. When that band split we formed an electro pop duo and I had my first experience of technology working with a Yamaha CX5M music computer. Some of the songs we did are on my Soundclick site ( This Time is one of them ). We then formed Tricks Upon Travellers playing a kind of hybrid folk punk rock. Very left wing, very righteous :) ) This band stayed together for 10 years in various forms, produced 4 CDs that received good reviews in the folk rock press and played Glastonbury. The expected breakthrough never happened though and eventually the band went their separate ways. I never quite gave up writing or playing though and the discovery of a songwriting forum (www.musesmuse.com) on the web re-ignited my creative self. The purchase of a Zoom 16 track recorder gave me a whole new world to play with and I started to write and record more than I did when i was playing live. Now I've got an iMac, Garageband and Jam Pack 4 and things have moved on once again. I have a veritable armoury of sounds and possibilities. I love it. The internet has opened up all sorts of avenues I could not have imagined even 5 years ago. I've written with guys in the States and across Europe. Talk about multi-cultural communication!
musicskills
Experienced guitarist, very poor keyboard player and an average singer. I write some half decent songs now and again. I've got a degree in music from the Open University. Took 8 years but well worth it and it's highly recommended. Still can't read music very well and certainly can't play from it and it takes me ages to write it! I work in all sorts of styles depending what I'm trying to achieve and am currently (Oct 2006) working on a rock opera with Graeme from TUT (see above).
